Will you be going to watch????
I'm thinking this may be a Mini-Dis meet opportunity :teeth:

I am hoping to be lucky enough to have the days to take off (although obviously I wouldn't be sick and my principal's a PITA).... I think it'll be the only way I can go to WDW in the near future! It seems so far away, but I will try to go for it! Life's too short! :cheer2:

I did Magic Music Days twice when I was in high school. We paraded around EPCOT and did a stop right where the countries started. I remember it being soooo hot with our uniforms on, but it was so much fun. We also went to St Petersburg for a festival and parade and ended up in WDW for the day. Senior year was a trip to Aneheim for another competition and went to Disneyland.

Fun fun fun!!

And people always make fun of us band geeks......none of the sports teams ever went anyplace fun!!!

Tracey~Your baby is ADORABLE!!! What a cute smile!!!

Great looking tuba!!!-- I love it, I am so jealous!!! (I play tuba too!!! )

I wished I owned it. Our school has an identical one, but a teacher dropped it down the stairs a few years ago, so its pretty dented.

Thank you! :goodvibes
Sometimes I get the shots where he looks like a little Buddha- there is one of them!

Congrats to all those who have earned the privelege to march at WDW! It's really an honor after all the band has to do to even be considered. And to those band parents...I feel for ya! DS had such a great time last year...worked his behind off as a 7th grader (trombone) marching with the HS band (no JRHS marching band) and picked up the tuba to help round out the JRHS concert band, but his director didn't seem to recognize the effort and DS was ready to quit and completely until he realized the only way he can compete with his instruments is to be enrolled in band at school. So, he's still in band, but doing the minimal...no marching, only concert band at JRHS. I'm a bit relieved that we don't have to follow that schedule this year...but now he's talking about doing HS pep band when basketball season starts.

It looks like none of the bands will be "on" when we are there over Christmas, but we always try to support the bands that are marching because we know the work the kids put into it!

Look for the Gateway Marching Band in the afternoon parade at the Magic Kingdom on Dec. 9, and the Gateway Wind Ensemble performing at the Galaxy Palace Theatre (Tomorrowland) on Dec. 8 - afternoon, not sure of the time yet. My DS15 plays trumpet in both ensembles.

Thanks all! Sorry I havent been here in a while. I have been awfully busy with band practice thursday, a football game friday, and a band festival yesterday. Wow, band really does take a lot of time. A lot of my friends were in it last year and they kept telling me how hard it was and I am surprised at how hard it really is. I am in the color guard (the ones with the flags). We will be going in February. When I get the schedule of when we are marching, I will let yall know if I remember.
Just a little story from last night's festival:
For 16 counts, the color guard marches in a straight line backwards. The runners set the batons up for majorettes in the wrong place. One person, "J", who is in guard tripped over the baton and fell. The person in front of her, "D" tripped over J and "K" tripped over D. So we now have 3 people on the ground laughing hysterically. I dropped my flag at the same time and when I went to pick it up (I didn't see anybody actually fall), I looked back and noticed that everyone was on the ground scrambling to get back up. That was at the very beginning of the show, about 5 sets into it. We all laughed the rest of the show. It was definitly the worst performance we have every had, but the most fun, too. When our instructor asked why J fell, J replied "I didn't realize I fell until I got up". That is just another classic color guard moment.
