I was going to commute from hollywood, to anaheim, everyday 2 days in a row. To be able to go to disney, while my husband was at his convention up in hollywood. And, since I have been reading about how far it is using the transit system. I decided to rent a room for myself for those two days. Up in anaheim. While my husband will be in hollywood. My thinking, it will be so much more convenient to get up early everyday to be at the parks. Then, be able to stay in the parks until closing! I will walk to the parks in the day, and then take the shuttle back. It just makes so much more sense to me. Even though. It does seem ridiculous, to have spent extra money on another room. But, I need my disney!!

Anyone, have tips. I want to try the monte cristo. I know the Blue Bayou, has it. But, I think i read another place has it also, is it as good?? Do I need to make reservation. Since I am only one? What other resteraunts should I go to while in Disney?? Interested in really good food, without characters. TIA everyone

Congrats on the brave decision. The Blue Bayou does have the MC but so does Cafe Orleans right next to it. Its very very good. Very filling. I had to bring half mine back to the hotel with me. Great bedtime snack :rotfl:

I cant help you when it comes to other restaraunts inside disneyland parks as we usually eat out of the parks due to less lineups and sometimes slightly better prices, but outside in DTD the Rainforest cafe is to die for. Sooooooo Good! :thumbsup2

You will be so glad that you did this! We have had to commute to Hollywood from DL many times since my husband's parent live there and it has been a nightmare EVERY single time. Once it even took us over 3 hours-grrr, we were very late for a family reunion dinner!

The last few trips, I finally put my foot down and said NO WAY! We either hit them on the way in or on the way out but I will not make that drive during our DL trip. A few times when he had a conference in LA, he tried driving to us. At night, it was fine, no traffic but he would have to leave at the crack of dawn to get back up there in time.

I am not sure if you booked a room yet but I would strongly encourage you to pick one within easy walking distance and skip the ART all together if possible. Have a great time!

Hooray for you!! Can't wait till you get back and tell me if you liked Matterhorn (the ride, not me!!) I think it's awesome you are staying close, you will get so much more out of those two days.

The Monte Cristo is also at Carnation Cafe (make a PS if you can) and I love the all cheese one there too!! I also like the French Dip at French Market (it's only served at lunch, not dinner) and the Chicken Fusilli pasta at Redd Rockett Pizza Port!

Thank you all so much for your posts. I must admit. Since, I made my own reservations in anaheim. I am now pretty much more excited. On the 19th. I must get up at the crack of dawn to take the transit system, from hollywood to anaheim. But, I am so up for it. I will then check in early. I spoke to the hotel(doubletree guest suites/convention center) already just to leave my bags, and then off to the parks. I am thinking. I will take a cab, to my hotel, from anaheim train station. Then have the cabby wait, to drop me off at the gates to disneyland. I will stay the full day. Then will walk back. I know the hotel is a 15-20 minute walk. But, I have no problem with the extra excercise. I think I will need it, after I induldge, in the corn dog, mint julep, mickey beignets, and that monte cristo sandwich, over the two days. :lmao:

Matterhorn, I will try to call monday for a ressie to carnation cafe. Im thinking I will skip breakfast, and go around 11:30 for lunch. Also, I am sure I will love the matterhorn. I hope. I have been looking at videos of it, and it does seem fast, and at times, it looks like it can go flying off the tiny track it rides on. lol. But, I am going to do it. I have a question. I know there are two sides. Which side has the lesser line? And where are the lines? I cant remember anything about DL, since I was only 4 the last time i was there. Maybe I should get a book.

Well one side has the line that passes by Alice in Wonderland towards the hub, and the other side goes past the sub lagoon towards Tomorrowland!! I like the Tomorrowland side better and it will most likely have the shorter line although recently it seems to have been reversed!! Just check out both but last time we were there, everyone waited on the Sub lagoon side and then chose which side of the mountain when they got up to the middle split point!!

Have fun. It is a long walk to the hotel, I would even say it's more like 30-40 minutes but we have kiddos along!! I know it takes us 15 to walk to the Sheraton and that is quite a bit closer!! For $3 though you can take the ART shuttle back!

40 minutes blech  :headache:

Seriously, I did not know it was that long. Only if I would have known. 40 minutes does seem alot longer than 20. Geez, I will see what I can do. Maybe hire a taxi back and forth. I could use excercise, but 80 minutes per day roundtrip.

Just a quick correction, Carnation Cafe does NOT have the Monte Cristo. Only 2 places in the park have it, Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans. I have had it a both places and it is the same (but I think cheaper at Cafe Orleans because you don't get the salad like at BB.)

Cafe Orleans is fun to sit outside where they do the pirate show. My kids loved it so much, we went twice. Carnation Cafe has a nice breakfast and for lunch/dinner (same menu)there are many choices and we have always enjoyed our food there.

I just did not want you to be disappointed going into Carnation for a monte cristo!

Ok, thank you Fido. I will call again to cancel Carnation Cafe. Uhh, which would you choose Blue Bayou? Or Cafe Orleans. I think I am leaning towards Blue Bayou. I just found out the Blue Bayou, is somewhere in or near the POC. How cool is that!

I personally would pick the Blue Bayou just for the fact that its inside the POTC ride. Especially if you can get a seat anywhere near the water to people watch and just take in the atmosphere. Last time we went it was kinda disappointing because they put us right near the door and wasnt nearly the same experience. But make sure to make reservations early, it packs out long in advance.

I would do Blue Bayou. Make PS for 11:30, the first available seating time and then show up around 11:10-11:15 to check-in and ask for a waterfront table. We do this everytime and have always gotten one. People have been complaining about the restaurant changing since last summer, but we still love it!

Fidoprincess that is GREAT information. I have not eaten at the BB since having kids and I know they would really want a waterfront table. That might help occupy them for the lunch. Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks everyone for your replies. I just wanted to let everyone know. That I booked the blue bayou. April 19th, @11:30. I will try for a waterfront table. I really can't wait. Less, than a month Disneyland here I come!!
