OK - So I Bought Magic Bands From The Disney Store.Com

A bit off topic but daughter (4) took one of hers outside the other day I figured she just wanted to wear it-and she went and tried to open the shed with it to get her Lightning McQueen powerwheel out!! I put him away for winter and apprently she thought she found a way around that!

Cute.

Alice, tell her the band only works at WDW - it's "Disney Magic". :wizard:

Is it true the batteries are only good for two years? Read that somewhere but don't know if it came directly from Disney.

This article says there are 2 chips in the band. A passive RFID and an active RFID or NFC. The passive one lasts indefinitely and is for FP+, admissions, etc. The active one can sense you from a distance of several feet. That one lasts only 2 years or so. Greeting you by name from a distance, etc.

I don't see myself using any of the active RFID capabilities so I am good for a while with mine.

The "Active" RFID is used for many of the rides to capture your picture and automatically add it to your Photo Pass/Memory Maker, but you can still go to the picture screens at the end of the ride and tap your "Passive" RFID MB so that you can still get the pictures.

So even if the battery dies, it's still good and can be used. (The passive one does NOT require a battery to work.)

Well, darn. I own 2 of every color, 3 of two colors and have refused one my last trip and this upcoming trip (I go twice a year and do split stays and have an AP) so I wasn't interested in buying a new one. But just out of curiosity let's click on the link and see what they have. Wouldn't you know it they have my girl Tink. Guess who put Tink in a cart and then thought, well my son loves him some figment so even though he has 3 others lets get him one. At least I've deactivated some of the older ones and I'm pretty sure I may have misplaced one or two so what's one more to add to the stash?

Loves to dive,

I understand your predicament. You think you have bands enough. But you said you like Tink. So in my opinion you should get a Tink MB. I was surprised when DW said she like Donald (funny though, in retrospect it fits her personality).

There is no real need for MBs after that.
