Ok, silly question about bags?

Ok all of you ladies, I need your experiences. I will have one carryon plus a purse. My silly question is the size of the purse. I have a purse the size of a bag, not huge, can I use this? I really want to use it if I can. I was going to put papers, a few magazines plus some snacks for the flight especially with no food on the airlines. I am just curious with all of the recent changes. Will I be restricted a/c one carryon? Thanks for any help or advice!!

... an average briefcase, you will probably be ok. Most of the airlines allow a briefcase to count as the "personal item" in addition to a carry-on containing clothing.

Different airlines have different rules, do check to be sure.
