We just got back from Don's Extravagant Birthday Trip II. Two nights at Pop (we bought three) and one at OKW in a one bedroom thanks to the generosity of Lisa S (Debbie and Stan). Thanks to the *free* dining, we ate at Teppanyaki and the California Grill. We spent time in the villa whirlpool :Pinkbounc , and enjoyed the space (Don kept getting lost in the bathroom). We checked in about 2:30 and had our choice of several villas. A supervisor helped our CM pick out the best view for us, and we ended up in 3111 with a view of both a canal, lots of ducks and waterfowl begging at the patio, and the golf course. We enjoyed the feature pool on our departure day, and think the pool slide is pretty neat (just don't lay your head down, you'll clunk your head). We used up our extra counter service meals at Earl of Sandwich (highly recommended) and bought one last Minnie bar and Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich and 2 waters at a DTD kiosk. The CM told us many families buy 8-9 waters to use up their snack credits.

I will definitely use OKW 1-bedrooms again, especially when traveling with our children.

If you've any questions, feel free.

I klunked my head so hard I almost passed out!

OKW is a lovely resort isnt it. Thanks for your thoughts!

The sandcastle slide is awesome! You never know which turn is the last! :rotfl2:

I think I can see Richyams nodding "yes, they're finally getting it". Thanks for the smile.

We also recently stayed at OKW, having stayed previously at VWL and BCV. We liked them all, but the kids (11 and 7) want to go back to OKW on the next trip. The only thing my daughter (11) didn't like- the pastel colors in the rooms (I wasn't thrilled either, ds and dh didn't notice what color anything was). We'd love to go back, but dh thinks we should use our points where we bought them- BCV (his choice, BTW).

I'm so glad to hear you had a good time in that 1 BR at OKW! I was thinking about you on the 18th, hoping that you and Don were having a great day on his birthday.

Just to fill people in, dgaston and I met at a Boston-area DIS meet in June. It must have been fate that we ended up sitting together during lunch. She ended up explaining DVC to me and my DH at a time when I was feeling discouraged about the diminishing AP discounts and wondering whether our days of staying within walking distance of Epcot were behind us.

We ended up buying a BWV resale contract, closing on it last month. When I called MS for the first time in mid-August, they told me that our contract had 16 current-year points left, due to expire at the end of September. We couldn't use them ourselves and I certainly didn't want to see our very first DVC points go unused, especially when there were enough for one night in a 1 BR at OKW.

But wait... I see from her DIS signature that dgaston is going to WDW in September! (There's that fate thing again...) So DH and I decide it would be great fun to provide some pixie dust for her trip to thank her for introducing us to DVC!

I'm so glad this worked out and that you had a good time!

LisaS: It was soooo much fun. It did add huge amounts of pixie dust to Don's birthday. It really gave us a nice boost at a busy time of year for us.

To others: Aren't DISer's wonderful!

He still sees many of us who would rather have the long hallways and the ability to reach from the living room couch into the refrigerator for a beer.

Oh, that is so nice! And I hope you love your new BWV contract! We bought resale there last year and I love being a DVC member.
