Ok paranoid brit weather question

Thanks for that- I've read varying reviews on united, some saying they have TVs, others saying just a communal screen, i didn't realise they could tell me specifically if i called them, I shall do that nearer to flying (just over 7 weeks to go!- kids are all very excited.)

It is a good idea to buy ponchos for the little ones before you go. The adult ones are a toss up. The ones at Disney have Mickey on them, which to some is a silly reason to spend extra money, but might make you want to wait. Here's a good tip-if you are using a stroller at all, you want to cover it up before you go into rides and shows in case it rains while you are gone. We bought a stroller cover for our double, but discovered that an adult poncho totally covered a single, umbrella style stroller. You may want to bring along an extra adult sized one for that reason.

That's great about the extended nursing! From what I've read about nursing rates in England, you are a hero :worship: .

Thanks for the tip of stroller covering- I usually babywear so the stroller is a bit of a new adventure for all of us (kids are fascinated by the fact they can put things under it and it took over 2 weeks to convinced DS17m that he wanted to sit in it at all!)

Very little nursing support here unless you actively search it out, which I did, alot and I'm glad I did (totalled it up the other day and we think we've saved around $2400 in his lifetime by not having to buy formula!)

Yep we do get a few tornados but they are very, very rarely damaging (I can only think of 3 or 4 in my living memory that caused building damage or uprooted trees, one was a couple of years back and right by my DH's grandmas house- when she called to tell us we really thought she was joking!) we don't get many but because we're smaller than some US states in terms of land mass we get more per area i suppose... but like i said rarely damaging to any significant level (maybe a few roof tiles off, the occasional roof lifted off of an old building but not house lifting style ones we see on the news from some American states)

I was there in 2000, when DW closed the parks do to a hurricane. I have no fear of returning during hurricane season, since I loved my first trip to WDW.

The CM's did an excellent job of closing the parks when the decission was made. Busses ran continually, getting everyone back to the resort. I was told they closed 2 parks at 1pm and the other 2 at 2pm. They used all or most of the busses from the other 2 parks to get people back to the resorts as fast as possible.

Just so you know, the rain at the time was a mist like rain. Nothing compared to what we are use to in Vancouver, BC. It was still hot out and I wouldn't have bothered with the poncho, except we saw everyone else with one on and thought it was raining!

I felt sorry for the CM who was taking out the pool furniture. He must have put it out, then cleaned it up at least 5 times. I guess they were trying to let guests have something to do. Then the CM was told to remove the chairs as it wasn't safe, then a short while later he had to put them out again.

Yes, you may use DVD players on planes. Never flown international, but I have employees who do. The 3.5 hour flight from DC to New Orleans is plenty long enough for me. We always take the DVD player and laptop and use both in-flight. Never had a problem although you may want an extra battery for your flight.

Please don't flame me for this...but... a few years ago, my sister with kids came to see us during a local festival...and of course IT RAINED!! So, much to my DH and BIL's shock, we dressed the kids in garbage bags. They were a perfect fit. (I think we dressed them in a kitchen bag that went to their knees but was form fitting.) I wish I had taken pictures. Oh, of course you cut holes for the head and arms. The only really bad thing was that it had keep away from children printed in large letters.

Years ago, our high school band director always kept a few boxes of garbage bags - for just this emergency. There seems to be a garbage bag that fits every size.

:firefight

Hiya - from the UK too....

we were there for a hurricane in 98 and it was not sooooooo bad.

We were unfortunately in the car coming back from Kennedy Space Center when the edge came inland - the rain was something I NEVER want to behold again in my life!! We had to pull to the edge of the road as we could not even see the front of the car we were in. After it passed we saw a highway full of cars had stopped and waited - everyone looked relieved! Apparently the parks shut for a couple of hours but that was it. After an hour or so you would have thought nothing had happened... I think Florida is well prepared for hurricanes and it is just bad luck if you get caught up in one.

As to flying with kids - we bought them Nintendo DS s (girls 7 and 5) and SEPARATED them - me + DD7, hubby + DD5 worked really well... DD7 gets terribly travel sick, so we got Boots own brand travel sickness pills - DD7 dose is half a pill DD5 is one quarter - they dissolve really quickly - really works well.

I'm sure the trip will be great.... have fun
Tessa

OK you really can't stress about this! Honestly the chances of them being correct are somewhere between slim and none, and slim just left the building :rotfl: . These weather people can't even get the next days weather right, much less something like a hurricane 2 months in advance. Don't sweat the hurricane thing, just the heat, and sweat you will :rotfl2: ! Be prepared for hot, humid and sticky. Hydrate yourself well and have fun. There is no sense is worrying about something you have no control over. If it happens it happens, and you'll have a great story to take back to England and regale your friends with :lmao: !

BTW Mickey's Apprentice that story is a hoot!!! I love it!

Thank you.

I was a bit afraid to elaborate. The thing that really made the kids look cute, (other than they are the most adorable kids) was that we took plastic Wal-Mart bags and made rain hats out of them. (OK, so that is part 2 of the garbage bag story.)

Here is part 1 of the garbage bag story. First of all, I went to a very small high school - so there were usually only about 40 kids in band, and that was for grades 6-12. So anyway, the band director coordinated a voluntary trip to see a drum corps competition in Birmingham, with band parents providing transportation, and of course we ran into the Great Flood. Anyway, we get there and our chaperone goes to the ticket booth and is asked "Do you have any preference?" So, our chaperone jokingly says..."Someplace Dry." So...the man in the ticket booth says "No problem" and gives US tickets below the upper deck (i.e., where its dry). So then for the rest of the night...we see all of the other band kids wearing garbage bags. There must have been 10,000people wearing garbage bags that night. (I think they spent $3/piece on garbage bags.)
