:confused3 We just got back from an incredible trip to the World! This was our first ever trip to WDW in December and it was soooooo beautiful. I have one MAJOR complaint though....what happened to Christmas Spirit and the magic of Disney blending together? I know it couldn't have been you DISers on these boards but my...oh...my....

We went to the MVMCP and people were just plain CRAZY! People waited outside the shops until the doors cracked open. When they did, it was a MAD dash for the party items. I don't mean a bit of a rush......I mean a dash! I saw people with 10 or more shirts/sweatshirts cuddled in their arms and slung over their shoulders. I was only going in to buy a Mission Space pin that my DS wanted. Needless to say, we left there and bought it at the WL resort. Then..........the pin thing......I thought it would be nice to have a pin from the party. The line was very long and people were not in the Jolly mood of Christmas. Then I proceeded to walk up Main Street and was walking past the Time Keeper and saw a huge line there as well. I guess they were buying pins from the previous night's Christmas parties. A CM told us that people were spending hundreds on them.

Don't get me wrong, we had a fantastic time. The snow on Main Street was beautiful, the decorations were georgeous, and the parade was FANTASTIC!! I guess I just expected the spirit of Christmas and the magic of Disney to make people in a happy mood rather than pushy, greedy, and just not fun to be around.

We have seen people acting like this before but on a rare occasion. We skipped all of these crazy lines (except that nights pin) and just walked aroung the park. Once you got off Main Street, everything returned to "normal".

I agree with the pin line!! UGH!! Last year they were selling the pins in the Emporium so there were many registers and the lines were maybe 4 to 5 people at the most and the pins that were left over from previous nights were over in Town Hall. This year was NUTS!! I usually get the pin from the night I go but this year I did not. THe line was from the front door all the way down the corridor, must have been 25 to 30 people on line, and it was moving so slow cause people wanted to see pins they had left over from the nights before. Hopefully Disney will change it back to having it in the Emporium next year :wizard:

Not to beat a dead horse, but I feel like this is happening more and more everywhere. We went to the mall tonight (to drop of our Salvation Army angel tree gifts) and couldn't believe people! They were so pushy and so nasty. We were getting dirty looks becuase we'd packed all the gifts into a big K-Mart bag and were dressed in fleece pants and sweatshirts. This is a "high-class" mall. Whatever.

Because we have a WDW wedding on December 29th, we haven't been involved with purchasing gifts this year... we usually do it by Halloween anyways, so this was totally unfamilair to us! We haven't dealt with the holiday crunch in 4 or 5 years!

We decided we didn't want to cook when we got home, so we went to the food court. You know when you and walking right towards someone and then you both move right, left, right, until you finally pass one another? Well, we did that with this huge man with a beautiful white beard and baseball cap on. We stopped dead in our tracks, looked at one another, and said, "That was Santa!" I let him get his food and then insisted we go talk to the man. I walked up to the table and simply said, "Santa?" He gave me one of those knowing looks and just barely nodded his head. I was soo excited. We thanked him for keeping the Christmas spirit alive and being such a good sport while he was eating his dinner. He said, "I have never had an adult recognize me before. They are usually so busy and so wrapped up in their own lives, they fail to remember how much fun Christmas used to be. Usually, children will stare and giggle becuase they know. You have made my Christmas season... the true meaning of Christmas lives on in the hearts of chilren and adults who have the hearts of children" He had us both welled up with tears.

For years, I have felt like people have just forgotten what Christmas is supposed to mean. I believed in Santa until I was a freshmen in highschool! Even then, it was my dorm mother (boarding school) who had to sit me down and explain that Christmas was alive with magic but that I needed to thank my own mother and father for their incredible job... I thank a good Catholic school that never let us loose sight of being kind to one another and celebrating the birth of Jesus.
