OUCH!!

I just got stabbed again putting a pin in my pin book!!! This never happened before these stupid pin backs! Not only that, but they don't even grip the pins very well...anyone else agree?

Hey Mickey, this time you've gone too far with that logo of yours!!!

But first My Queen..methinks thoest better washy thy mouth out w/ soap...

A lot of us have been using cork between the pages, and then we just stick the pin into the cork..and walla no pin back pricks!!!!

you can get it at any craft store..and just put your backs in a little lor big..plastic bag and the pin is easy off and easy on..
Me thinks this GREAT suggestion should put me up for a special office...what do you think..

And now I am off w/ Sir, Lord Raul Eddie to try and get a figment pin, and the pin game..

I will check in later for your Royal answer..

as always...your faithful servent...

Lady Donna

(just a little suck up there)

I am so with you on this one! They go on crooked, and then don't stay on tight. CUTE.....but not functional. I have been stuck way too many times!!

Leslie, if these Mickey head pins were so wonderful, then why did so many CMs have them on their lanyard pins last month? I agree - these pin backs do not seem to stay in place as well. I think Disney is trying to get rid of them via pins on CM lanyards. And I can sympathize with getting stuck with a pin back - OUCH!

Lady Donna,

I thank thee for thy resourceful solution to the pin back problem, but I shall not apologize for my language...my royal index finger has been stuck for the last time! :D

And yes, I shall have to come up with a reward for thy inventiveness...but not today, as I must have time to ponder and I am off yet again to the royal city of York for a command performance of The Full Monty:D See you on the morrow.....

I love the Full Monty.(the play or movie..I mean) You are so lucky to be able to pop in to NY to see these...We are patiently awaiting the arrival of the road company of the Lion King here..the closest I will get for a time...

I hope your finger has healed..it will be hard to clap otherwise...

Lady Donna

I've been stuck also. I can't stand the rubber backs. Give me the metal ones you pinch together any day!

I agree I don't like the new backs. I hate to keep finding backs "floating" around when I open my pin book. It takes a while to find where it came off from...

Hello,

I, too, have been stuck a bunch using those Mickey head backs. But, could someone pelase tell me about the cork between the pages of your binders and how to use it?

This sounds like a great thing....but sadly, I need a lesson! :p

Please.

Thanks so much!

Judy

I am so excited to share the 'cork between the pages' trick. I was out pin trading a few weekends ago when I was looking through someone's VERY neat book and I thought to myself 'OK, this person either has way too much time on his hands to get his pins so neat and organized or I'm just a big loser with a messy book who can't do it'.

When I asked to see the back of a pin to see the edition size he just plucked it off the page and handed it to me. Well, I kinda went nuts and acted like I just saw Elvis (or some other example of someone I would have been surprised to see). He explained the cork thing to me and I ran home and did it that week. It is alot of work up front but really saves time in the long run. Especially if you update your collection a lot.

Here's what I did:

1. Went to my local KMart and in the crafts/packaging/office supply section picked up some cork board. I found it in 1 foot by 1 foot squares that came 4 to a package. Note: You need 5 pieces for a standard pin bag and these cost me $6.99/package of 4.

2. I then removed all the pins from my pin book and then removed all the pin backs. This takes the most time and causes the most bleeding. The best part about this is you can a) revel in all your glorious pins and b) organize them to go back into your book as you take them out.

3. I cut one square of the cork board to fit inside the sleeve of the pin bag. I used regular scissors and it took me a little tweaking and adjusting to get it to fit just right (i.e. so the pouched closed and the page turned nicely).

4. I used this first cut piece as a template. I placed this piece on a second one and traced the outline. I did this for the rest of the four pices I had left to do.

5. I then cut all the pieces of cork to size. The best part about this is you don't have to be super neat with the cutting - no one is going to see it. Next, I slid all the cork pieces into all the sleeves of my bag.

6. I placed all my pins in my book exactly where I wanted them. This was the coolest part. I got to organize my pins so they made sense for me. I also had a chance to fit more pins per page.

The best part is the pins come off and go on so easily now I can get new ones, trade and/or just move them around without the hassle of opening the sleeve, taking the back off, etc.

I think once you get your book in order with this you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

John

PS A friend of mine played around with using foam board for one of his books. While it was a lot cheaper, and worked OK, I think the foam board may 'degrade' with time as the pins get removed and placed back. Just my opinion - we'll see.

Hey, Webmaster John ... I'm following this "cork" discussion with great interest. I'm curious though ... how thick is this cork? Does it expand your pin bag to the max?

I am loving this idea lots!!!!

Thanks ...

The cork board I used is maybe 1/4 of an inch thick and did not add any thickness to my book. As a matter-of-fact, it made it easier to close I was able to fit more pins per page and take out all those 'stragglers' that I was keeping in the mesh pouches.

Hope that helps.

John

Hi John,

THank you SO much for the great lesson on "cork boards" (i'm laughing softly). Can you tell me if two-post pins stick as well to the cork as I hope they do?

Plus, and I *know* this is a dumb one ....where do you put all the backs? In a small plastic bag inside the pin bag?

Thanks so much!

Judy:p

Hi Judy

Yes, the cork board works great for pins with multiple posts. The only pins that gave me any kind of 'fit' was the ones with the 'broach style' back. You know, kind of like a bobby pin backing. They can't go into the cork board like the others but you can still pin them through the material. Just don't put to many on one page.

As far as the backs go (here comes my truly anal-retentive side showing) I seperated them by type into their own seperate plastic ziplock bags (i.e. the black rubber mickey heads in one, the plane black rubber ones in another, the gold ones in another, etc.).

I only keep a few with me because if I am going to trade a pin most likely I just pull my pin out of my book and tell the other person to keep their back. If it's a 'two-for-one' type deal then I can dip into my extra backs.

So, by show of hands, how many of you are scared of me right now?

John

No, John, I'm not scared of you!!! Eeek!

I really appreciate all the information you passed along here. I went hunting at K-Mart, WalMart, and Michaels and none of them are carrying the cork board. The Michaels that I went to said they used to carry it but not any more. She told me to try a larger one on the other side of town so I'll make that trip on my next day off.

I can't wait to have my pin bags fixed up this way. I'm ready to play hooky from work just to go searching for the cork board.

Now, are you scared of me??? ;)

Thanks again. I truly appreciate the information.

Roxanne

Love this cork board! I found mine yesterday at a Hobby Lobby store. Michael's didn't have any....they were out. The person at Michael's also suggested the craft part of any Super Walmart.

I found 4 12x12 sheets for $9.99. Seems like a bit much, but hey at least I found them!

Okay John, thank you so much! I'm *not* scared of you either :bounce: ! I am laughing.

Have a great day and wanna trade John?

Judy
