I have been calling my house to see if I have any message on my phone because I'm waiting for some calls and the phone is busy. Well once in a while my dh will go home and do some work or something. So I called his cell phone and he is at work in a meeting. DD is in school and I'm here at work....AND MY PHONE IS BUSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been busy for at least 15 minutes. So now I'm trying to decide, do I go home and check on the phones or do I just wait it out and not worry about it!!!!! YIKES

If you can get away...go home and check.

Because if it were me, it would bug me all day and I wouldn't get any work done anyway.

Maybe someone accidentally knocked the phone off the hook this morning? Or maybe the phone company is working on the phone lines? I know I'd be tempted to go home and investigate though.

I am tempted but I'll be going home for lunch so I'm not too worried about it. But in order to get a line on our phones you have to push a button so I know if someone knocked the phone off the hook it would be okay and not get a busy signal. I never thought that maybe they were working on the lines. Someone might have called too and just didn't hang up on their line also.

It's just kinda freaky!!!

I know EROS!!!!! (inserting thoughts of Psycho theme song here!!!!!) :D:D:D:D

My MIL has been known to call and leave these long rattling-on messages that are more than 15 minutes long, taking up the whole darned tape  Do you know anyone like that, Chris? :p

Since you're expecting calls, perhaps you tried at the same times others were leaving messages

I have sometimes had a dog knock a phone off the hook! Very frustrating! Why not call the phone company and have them check to see if there is someone on the line or if it is just dead air?

Your local phone company should be able to cut-in and tell you if a phone if off the hook. Could you have left an Internet connection open with a phone modem???? Have you ever noticed the strange rumbling of chains during the night????;) ;) ;) ........

I wouldn't be going home LOL That is what people do in the horror movies and you sit there yelling at them DON'T GO HOME DOOOON'T GO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME. LOL ;)

We shut the computer down during the day and I did use it this morning but not the internet and did shut it off, and double checked, before I left for work. I think I will call the phone company and see if they can check it out - good idea!

ROFL MosMom----you are so right!!!!!!!!

Another possiblilty: Field mice.

Our phones went out last winter. No dial tone, and when other people tried to call us, they got a busy signal (?). Phone company finally traced the problem to a relay box that had been invaded by mice, who chewed through the lines   . . .

The joys of living in the country . . .

Okay, problem is taken care of. DH went home and checked it out - it was the answering machine!!! It appears that either someone called and decided they didn't want to leave a message or it was one of those telemarketer calls that doesn't pick up until after you answer and even then sometimes they don't pick up - the answering machine apparently got "hung" up and couldn't disconnect or something. VERY STRANGE!!! But at least now I know it's safe to go home!!!! :D

ha ha ha mo's mom

That used to happen to me daily. My last cat seemed offended by the phone and had to put it in it's place as soon as I'd leave for school. It was funny though.
