OK I'll Start It!! NYE Party @ SSR! Who Else?

MK on the 30th does sound better so that would be a good option.

Well now if you're gonna start doing things my way I just might let you in my "super secret best view of MK fireworks picnic spot" on Dec 30th. But I warn you, if they do an EMH that night my party is staying there till 4am. (Gotta get the 4am sugar high treats.)

tomandrobin how about some meade? I think I can learn how to ship down a few bottles by New Year's. I don't know about the champagne. I'll work on the staff in April and October when I'm there. Maybe I can sweet talk them into it. After a couple drinks I might just get enough courage to ride ToT this time.

So when do we call to book NYE? Around Jan 30?

Liferbabe, any help you need just let me know.

Meade is fine with me, not so for Robin. She is more of a Malibu Bay Breeze kind of girl!

Brogan, I know my family asked for the right location and even provided the room number to the maintenance guy, when he turned them around and sent them the opposite way. Lucky for us the bus drivers were usually much more familiar with the layout, although a few asked if we wanted the "first or second Paddock stop" - we quickly learned the first was actually the Carousel stop, which was a touch further than the Paddock one.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys, and the wonderful guidance. I do want to say while our location was terrible, our entire stay was not "terrible" - well, not because of SSR - most of the CMs were wonderful, for sure, even though they didn't relocate us. I figured it would be "crazy-busy" at WDW and tried to plan for it (other than the distance) - problem was more getting my family to trust me (they didn't) rather than thinking they "knew better" (they definitely didn't!:scared1:). While it was too cool for these old bones to be in the pool, the fireworks were lovely from the chairs around the SSR pool (DGS fell asleep shortly before midnight, so we didn't try to walk down to the water). We also managed to get to the last performance of the CP, and saw Illuminations that night from a near-perfect spot in France. I brightened up a few faces when I gave away several sets of fastpasses when it was clear my mom was just "done" for the day - it was neat to see people's faces brighten when they were looking at a sign that said "120 min wait" and hand them our fastpasses to use instead.

This was a trip of may little things going wrong, aggravated by the cold and finally leading up to quite a crescendo of an ending when on the last day we received a phone call that my DH's 33 YO DD has stage IV melanoma, spread to her entire lymph system, many of her bones and a tumor in her abdomen. (We first learned of the melanoma just before Christmas, but preliminary news was it was likely quite manageable.)

WOW, I'm SO sorry to hear that. Your family is in my prayers! (Kinda puts bad location into perspective.)

Sending you lots of pixiedust:

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. We lost my mom to breast cancer a few years ago. It's never easy so just try to hang on. We were on that metastatic rollercoaster for 5 years. I'm still amazed at all the things my mom managed to do under the "inoperable" sentence. She turned my dad and I into travel gypsies. So much more fun going out and experience life's adventures rather than waiting for the book or movie.

I'll keep your family in my prayers! PM me if I can offer any suggestions.

Hee hee. It does seem like that, doesn't it?

I guess I take for granted how much I know about WDW and SSR geographically. I don't get lost much anymore. Usually I'm the one giving directions. (Well except for the roads. I'm still trying to figure out all those back routes.)

This is why I prefer taking one newbie with me at a time. My cousin was always outnumbered so just tagged along happily. When I took my sister's family last October I wasted quite a bit of time (and several gray hairs) lobbying people to just follow the plan I had spend hours and days working out. They seem to forget DISers spend a good amount of time before the trip just researching. I figure there's a special place in heaven for trip planners. Gotta be for all the griping we get in our attempts to make others happy.

My 4 parks in a day solo outing was a lot less stressful.

I must admit I like your style - your posts often bring a smile to my face! One of these days I'm leaving my family home and just meeting up with fellow DVCers!

Along with the double scooters, we share something else in common...lost my sister to breast cancer almost 3 yrs ago now.

I've been on that same roller-coaster with someone close 4 times before this one in recent years, and 3 of the four lost their battles since 2003 (youngest was 22 when she died) - it never gets easier, and it always s*cks.
