My family and I live in Louisiana. We just got back from Memphis, TN a few hours ago, after evacuating for hurricane Ivan. Luckily, we came away unscathed by the storm.

We were supposed to leave last Sunday the 12th for our DW trip, but didn't due to the hurricane. (In fact, we should be in Disney World right at this very moment... :() We rescheduled, and now we are supposed to leave this Sunday, the 19th. My question is this: NOW, hurricane JEANNE is down there and may hit FL. Should we chance it and go, or do you think that we should put it off yet AGAIN??!!!...

HELP!!! I'm about to use profanities on the Dis-board!!!!
LOL

Help me!! I need some good advice!!

Thanks---AlisaAnn

I would definately go! From what I've heard of Disney, they handle the whole hurricane situtation extreemly well. and looking at the current forecated path of Jeanne, it doesnt look like it will hit WDW.

If you read the trip reports from people who were down there for Charley and Ivan, all they say is that the lines were really short b/c everyone decided not to go. i would just go and make the best of it!

I've always lived in the North East and I'm not used to having tornadoes and hurricanes come my way in full effect and scaring me out of my home and home state so if it were me I wouldn't go to Florida when I know another potential disaster is on the way. I'm sure that WDW is capable of handling all types of difficult situations but just know that WDW will be there after the hurricanes and crazy weather is gone. I say reschedule again. This is just my opinion. :)

I say GO! Models do not show Jeanne affecting much of Florida. From what I have read on other boards, the weather has actually been nicer because the hurricanes sucked up all the rain away from WDW! (ok, probably not the way a meteorologist would describe it but ya get the point). You can put off forever & still get rain or cold weather so go now & have a great time!

A hurricane in Disney is better than a beutiful day at work!

TROPICAL STORM JEANNE DISCUSSION NUMBER 16
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
11 AM EDT FRI SEP 17 2004

THE CENTER IS POORLY DEFINED ON EARLY VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY BUT
A FEW SURFACE OBSERVATIONS OF MODERATE EASTERLY WINDS FROM NORTHERN
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC INDICATE THAT THE CENTER IS STILL INLAND. A
RECENT QUIKSCAT PASS SHOWS RAIN-FLAGGED SURFACE WINDS NEAR 60 KT
OVER WATER EAST OF THE CENTER AND THE ADVISORY INITIAL INTENSITY IS
KEPT AT 55 KT.

THE INITIAL MOTION IS 287/07 OVER THE PAST 12 HOURS. THE GLOBAL
MODELS SHOW THE RIDGE TO THE NORTH OF JEANNE ERODING OVER THE NEXT
3 DAYS AS THE STRONG MID-LEVEL REMANT OF IVAN DROPS SOUTHWARD.
THIS RESULTS IN JEANNE MOVING NORTH-NORTHWESTWARD AT LESS THAN 10
KT. AN INTERACTION BETWEEN JEANNE AND IVAN IS SUGGESTED BY DAY 3
AS THE CENTERS OF THE TWO SYSTEMS COME WITHIN ABOUT 700 N MI OF
EACH OTHER. MEANWHILE A STRONG RIDGE BUILDS OVER THE NORTHEASTERN
U.S. WHICH CUTS OFF THE NORTHWARD MOTION OF JEANNE AND THE GFDL...
NOGAPS AND UKMET MODELS SEND JEANNE MORE WESTWARD. THE GFS IS AN
EXCEPTION SHOWING A DUE NORTHWARD MOTION FOR 3 DAYS FOLLOWED BY
NEARLY STATIONARY. THE OFFICIAL FORECAST TRACK IS ADJUSTED A
LITTLE LEFT OF THE PREVIOUS ADVISORY FORECAST FOR 12 HOURS AND THEN
IS TO THE RIGHT OF THE PREVIOUS ADVISORY THEREAFTER IN AGREEMENT
WITH A CONSENSUS OF THE GUIDANCE MODEL.

WEAK VERTICAL SHEAR IS FORECAST FOR 2 DAYS BY THE GFS MODEL FOLOWED
BY INCREASING SOUTHWESTERLY SHEAR. SO JEANNE HAS ABOUT 2 DAYS TO
STRENGTHEN OVER WARM WATER AND THE FORECAST BRINGS THE WIND TO 80
KT BY DAY 3.

If you can delay your visit, I would. I understand Georgia, etc is a mess right now. It might be best not to be on the road, etc when there is so much clean-up going on right now.

We only go once a year and if I could time it so there weren't any major problems, I would.

I'm from Louisiana also. Jeanne will only be a CAT 1 storm. I'd go for it.

Good luck!

Hi! I am leaving tomorrow for DW & was wondering the same thing. But, living in NC, it may be better for me to be there than here. You never know! Maybe our families will be the only ones there! hehehe

I would say go. From what I have heard this storm is more likely to go up by NC or SC. It really doesn't look like it is going to be in Orlando.
You never know since these little stinkers can change course but at this point ... I think I would just go.

go!go!go!
have fun!fun!fun!
It is true.....a bad day at WDW is better than a good day at home!

We are leaving on the 25th hurricane or no hurricane.
We were on our honeymoon the very first time Disney ever shut it's doors and we still had a decent time. They were wonderful and did everything they could to accomidate us (including setting up a FREE breakfast buffet for the guests)
I'd say go go go go go!
