We are booking a guarat. cat. 11, are they really so bad? We don't plan on spending that much time in the room anyway & we would rather have the extra money to play with ;)
Any other fellow cruisers "roughing it"? LOL

A category 11 room is hardly roughing it.:D
Every single cabin on the ship is beautiful.
I tend to agree, we always get a category 11. It is defintely adequate and we don't spend that much time in our cabin either. We are on the ship to get out and have fun, not sit in our cabin:D
I say go for the category 11 and spend that extra money on something else.::yes::

Yep - we "roughed" it on our first cruise, last May. It was the best vacation in my whole life! We have sinced cruised in adjoining cat. 10s and the split bathroom is VERY nice. However, if there is either no cruise or a cruise in a #11 - I'd "rough" it and go with the 11 -- hands down!

We had a Category 11 on our first cruise last October and it was more than adequate. We booked another Category 11 cruise for our upcoming June cruise. I'll spend my money on other things.

If you have a guaranteed cat 11 I think, and correct me if I'm wrong....that means that you are guaranteed that you will get AT LEAST a cat 11 room. You may in fact be upgraded to a 10 or higher so consider yourself blessed! I have a guaranteed cat 11 for our trip in April and am praying for an upgrade but I will be happy with anything really since we won't be in the room much.

Bon Voyage!

We sailed in a Cat 11 last Oct. for 3 nights after sailing in a veranda cabin our other 3 trips. It was very well designed. Our next cruise is a 7 night, and we're in a Cat 7 because I wanted the extra storage space and the extra sink in the split bath. Otherwise, we loved the Cat 11 and will probably sail in them on the shorter cruises.

First, a gty isn't the same as an 11....it means that the lowest you'll have is an 11, but there is a strong possibility of an upgrade. Secondly, we like Cat. 11. I've told DD that she can have 4 cruises in an 11 for the price of one in a "fancy" cabin. We've been in a 6, 8, 9, and 11....and for the amount of time we spend in the cabin, it really doesn't make much difference. I'd rather cruise 2 weeks in an 11 than one week in a 6....hee hee.

We cruised twice in a cat 8, once in a cat 6 and then finally in a cat 11. I was fully expecting to be slightly disappointed in spite of trying to NOT be disappointed but instead we were surprised at how much we liked the inside cabin. There's no way I'd pay to book a porthole again and I would have to think long and hard before springing for a verandah as well. We had one of the sideways cat 11's (room 6003) and it actually felt more spacious than the cat 8's and 6 that we had. There was only two of us though, I can see missing the split bath if there are 4 people sharing the room.

Our first cruise was also in a cat 11. We had 4 of us and were fine! The only thing was we had also spent a week at WDW before so we had a LOT of luggage. The suitcases that didn't fit under our bed were stacked up on either side of the adult bed. Fine for us we just jumed into bed from the foot. I however did feel bad for our cabin steward:( The next cruise we were in a cat 5, the balcony was nice but not necessary. We did not spend that much time in our cabin.

However, just got home yesterday from a cat 3. Spent a LOT of time in our cabin and took advantage of a lot of room service and the concierge was incredible. So you now know that I am spoiled by the 3. Otherwise I didn't think the 5 was worth the price over an 11.

we like the cat. 11's. been on 5 cruises and had 4 cat. 11's and one cat.10.. this summer our 4 day wonder is a cat. 11 and we had a cat. 11 booked for our 7 day cruise but AAA had a great rate so we ended up with a cat. 8 for the price of the 11. it'll be fun to be in a room with a porthole, we hope we won't miss our inside rooom though.:wave2:

We have sailed in a Cat. 11 several times. While I certainly prefer a verandah, I wouldn't hesitate to sail in a Cat. 11 if that's what my budget allowed or if I wanted to put the money towards shore excursions or shopping. I'm not a big fan of the split bathrooms, as it always seems like hubby is in the part I need to use. The Cat. 11 is slightly smaller than the Cat. 10-5s, but not enough to really make a difference.
If you want to be outside, you can always go to the "secret" deck 7 aft verandah, the comfy chairs on deck 4, or the Rainforest in the spa. When we did our three-peat, we were in a secret porthole room and I spent a lot of time curled up with a book in a heated tile lounger in the Rainforest.
Verandahs are great, but you definitely won't suffer even if you don't have one.

Also sailed Cat 11 for first cruise. I found that I felt that I didn't miss a thing.

Our first cruise was in an 11 and we really really enjoyed it. The next cruise was in a cat 10 (split bath, still inside) and still very nice. Once we were in a cat 10 SPH and now we always want a room with natural light so we have been doing 9's. Remember, you are buying the "common services" which are the same for everyone (dinning, entertainment, great service). So get the least expensive room on the best ship around (you've almost done that - cat 12 is a little cheaper).

They are all nice rooms!

We just took our third category 11 cruise last month, and we loved it. I like the fact that it's dark inside, so that when I need to take a nap during the day it's not a problem (I need my beauty rest if I'm going to stay up late at night;) ). The cruise was in the middle of a 17-day WDW/DCL vacation, so we had lots of luggage, and one night we even had our niece and our granddaughter sleeping on the couch!

We don't spend a lot of time in the cabin, but it's been just fine for the two of us, and once we were three adults and that was great too!

We use the saved $$$ for some extra time at WDW.

So I kinda get this catagory thing, but how do i find out where my room is and what cat. it falls into. I know I'm on deck six, but that's all i know.

Hi DVCanuckJr and welcome to the DISboard

You can find out your cabin number by contacting your travel agent if you used one and asking them to find it out for you.
Or you can call DCLine and ask them yourself.
Once you know your cabin #, you can look on the deck plans of the ship in the brochure or on-line on DCLine site (I think). You will be able to find out the Cat. there.
Have a great cruise.
When are you going?

I booked my trip through AAA and on our itinerary and receipt it shows our room number. We chose a cat. 11 because we wanted to spend our extra vacation money going to Disneyworld and Universal. We went on a Carnival 4-day cruise last March in the same category. The room was older, but just fine. We figured if we were happy with a Carnival cruise older ship cat. 11, Disney would be a real treat. From the looks of the room, I think we made the right decision. We don't plan on being in the room much anyway. We'll see in a few months.

We just got back- had a cat 11 on deck 2 midship- nice spacious splitbath no prob there 4 of us- but I found that I really wanted the verandah- (kids and husband could care less) depends on what type of person you are. I work an early shift and get up most ams by 4:30 so 6:30 is sleeping in for me. I found I really wanted to go out and look at the ocean and had to go up alone to deck 4 to do that ......and kept wondering while I was up there is my family awake yet......felt lonly up there .... etc etc... I found for me the verandah will be the way to go next time . In the first day I was so dissapointed I actually cried because I thought it was going to ruin the trip... of course it didnt .....but when you save for something for a few years and look forward to it for nearly a year and when you get there its not what you really want well it freaked me out a bit ....by day 2 I was fine having a great time because I just told myself - now I know and next cruise I will get a verandah hahhaha .

CTDVCMBS: I think if you were on Deck 2 and had a split bath, you were in a Cat 10, not 11.

We booked a guaranteed cat. 11 for our upcoming cruise (....just 7 more days!) and we were upgraded to a cat. 9.

We're so excited that we'd take anything on the ship. Just so long as we can go.
