I know I am new here...but, I cannot keep this in!

some history:
me~47 yo female, single mom, had cancer...twice
my mom, rectal cancer...ok now
my dad, just finished his 5th week of radiation.

My daughter 25, 8 months pregnant....diagnosed thursday with melenoma..

I am freaking OUT! She is freaking out! thou, after talking to her yesterday ( she lives in Texas I am in New England)
she has 4 weeks to go with my first grandchild....
the surgeon saw her and this was a mole she grew up with, It got worse just recently. Now is it because she is pregnant that it got worse? they mentioned second stage!
please talk me down here...I am biting all the skin off my fingers and my eyebrows are gone!

she see's the oncologist next week. Now I have no clue how the doctors are in Texas and being near Boston...well, we have excellent care here. (nothign against texas, I just do not know it)

and words of help or wisdom would help so much right now!!!!
thanks for your help!!!:sad2:

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. No words of advice, just hugs. :grouphug:

I'll tell you right now, MD Anderson in Houston kicks Mass General's rear from here to Timbuktu. I've been to both. Get her there and she'll get great care. There's even a hotel attached to the hospital, the Rotary House that either you or her can stay in while she has whatever treatment she needs. Good luck!

I think MD Anderson myself, that is where I would be going if I were in Texas, but I am in Boston and my husband has, without a doubt, one of the most caring, educated, dedicated teams fighting right beside him in his battle against Pancreatic Cancer. I would never presume to rate them as I only have experience with Mass General, but I know from reading that MD Anderson is top notch...

AKL15, please stay strong and focused and try not go into the future.. take it one day at a time.. stage 2 is not bad and I am assuming they will allow her to deliver the baby and then start treatment.. I understand how you feel, I just had my second grandchild, but my first one had a very scary beginning, 7 weeks early and he did great. He is now 2, the love of our lives and now has a little sister who was born April 29....

Please come here if you need to talk, this is a great board for just that. Many of us have had life experiences that may equate to what you are going through. It seems like your family has had more than their share of dealing with cancer....and I have to say I hate the word.

Stay strong!!!!

well, I talked to my daughter last night. They have to act NOW. And I did check out her Oncologist who she seems to love! and says has an excellent background, to which he does. 100% positive feedback with no Neg "back history". He is a very caring and thorough doctor.

She has to time this all with her mid wife etc. to find out about being induced sooner. She see's her oncologist this week. So we will go from there and work on.
I just think being here and not there is making it worse.

thanks everyone!!! for your help!:goodvibes

sometimes life just does not seem fair at all!!

ok, so today I have found out that my daughter has Stage 2a. melanoma. Not the worst but not the greatest either! tumor is 2.1 mm in thickness. And she will have to be induced in 2 weeks, her due date is in 4 weeks. Sh, the timing of all this is so surreal to say the least!! she needs to give birth, have one week to establish breast-feeding the baby. Have surgery to remove tumor, take 2 days off of breast feeding to drain all nuclear injections..etc...
How much does a 25 yo new mom has to go thru?

I am thousands of miles away, and lost job, starting a new one this week! I cannot even be by her side! I am just lost as to what to do!!!:sad2:

thanks for listening

What a terrible situation you're in. I can't imagine how worried you are and how helpless you feel being unable to be by her side.

While this is not what anyone was expecting, it sounds like she found a great Doctor. That's so important at a time like this.

Know that we're here for you and are praying for your family. :grouphug:
