I'm the first to admit that I am a DSLR bigot. I love the flexibility I am able to get from my Nikon D300 and just can't deal with all the compromises that I have to make to use a point and shoot. I've tried several and I always end up giving them to my kids and I go back to my Nikon.

There have been times when a DSLR was just too big and bulky. These are the times when I have to admit that having a point and shoot makes sense. Rather than missing a photo completely I could have at least gotten something if I had a camera in my pocket.

So once again I had come to the conclusion that I needed to give point and shoot another chance. I've been monitoring the market and had narrowed it down to a few choices. One of those choices was the Canon G9. It was about as close to a DSLR from a functionality perspective that I had seen. It was compact but would still allow me some flexibility. To top it off it also shot RAW format which was a deal breaker for me.

I had identified the camera, it was now just a matter of deciding to pull the trigger and getting one. This weekend the planets all aligned and the timing was right. Our local Best Buy sent me a coupon for 12% off a digital camera and accessories. I had also accumulated $80 in certificates from their Rewards Zone program that were about to expire. Finally the Arizona Diamondbacks handed out a card that gave customers a $50 gift card on purchases of $500 or more. Gathering up all these items I headed to Best Buy and picked up the camera. The final cost on a Canon G9 ended up being $309.12 plus tax. I figured for that price I was probably ok.

I brought the camera home feeling pretty good about the whole transaction. As I walked in the door Trina immediately questioned what I had done. I tried to explain my reasoning behind getting yet another camera. She was less than sympathetic and confiscated the box. She said Father's Day was coming and now she was done shopping.

This seems messed up. I was all excited to try out the new camera and give a report on my first impressions and now all I have to show for my purchase is an empty Best Buy sack and a receipt. How in the world did I lose control so quickly?

you lost control when you said " I DO " :cool1:

Oh...she's a very smart woman! At least you'll have something to look forward to in a few weeks. ;)

I'm not positive but I seem to remember 27 years ago at that part of the vows Trina spoke up and said "He does" answering for me.

Well, at least you'll get to use it soon! And welcome to the Canon G family. I finally gave my G3 to someone else and got a G9 and absolutely love it!
