After seeing on these boards about people getting e-mails from Disney offering discounts on resorts I was getting discouraged b/c I never got an e-mail or a postcard. I got a DVC postcard, but that didn't apply to us.

Well, I have an old e-mail account that I check maybe once a month and today I decided to have a look. What did I find among the 1,000 e-mails (no kidding, I had 1,000 junk e-mails:crazy: )? An e-mail from Disney offering a discount for the fall! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I was very excited to say the least, but not sure if I wanted to call the day after the terrible hurricane. I called and spoke to a great CM who updated me on how they fared down there. Thankfully, she said things seem to be ok. Unfortunately that is not the case for SW Florida and my prayers are with everyone affected by this terrible hurricane. :(

The CM was great and applied the discount to my existing reservation at the YC in December. I'm now paying $199 a night which is a great saving. I'm very grateful for this as the e-mail came through about two weeks ago. Oh well, I am officially a dork for not checking my e-mail when I first started seeing these discounts on the resort boards. Anyways, thanks everyone for the heads up, otherwise I would never have looked for the e-mail. I would have hit the delete button for sure. Also, thanks to the great CM today!!

Thanks!!:wave2:

how did WDW get your e-mail address and how do you get the discounts?

Well, the e-mail that Disney sent me was to an e-mail account that I have had for about 8 years and I haven't really used it or provided it as a contact for about 2 years now. Since, we've been to Disney many times over the years and I've requested vacation planning videos, etc., I'm wondering if that is how I got put on the list.

The e-mail came with a pin# that I provided to the CM and that number is specifically tied to me so others can't use it.

I'm sure others might have a better theory as to how you get on that elusive disney mailing list! Good luck to you!

OK, I always have my emails from Disney sent to my "other" email account, too. You know, the email account that people use when they don't want to give out their real email address.

For the last year I've been trying to change it to my real email address, but it just won't take it.

OK, I have a question for the OP: What was the rate you were going to pay for YC before they applied the discount? I'm just curious how much of a discount they give for the Deluxe resorts. I'm planning a trip and I'll probably be staying at a Deluxe, just wondering what kinds of rates I can maybe expect.

Hi Mary,

The rack rate for YC is $289 w/out tax per night in value season (which is when I am going), but I had originally applied a AAA discount which had our reservation down to $246 a night. My e-mail stated that I could get a value resort for $59/night and a moderate for $79/night and they offered some discounts on deluxes but to call and ask. When I called the CM adjusted my reservation and the discount brought the rooms to $199/night (w/tax it comes to $221)

I have been patiently waiting for an Annual passholder discount but they are not out yet. The nice CM today told me that this discount looks to be the same as what the AP discount will be. I usually check these boards or Mousesavers.com to check out what kind of discounts there are out there. I know that I've looked up on mousesavers to see what the discounts have been in the past and that has been helpful in my planning.

I hope that this helps!

Hi Jill,

My email postcard said the value resorts would be starting at $49 a night, and the moderate resorts for $79 a night. We're not planning on going until next year...maybe in October or December. Are these email postcards something that I can expect for next year? Should I make a reservation early and then apply the discount to it after I get the postcard?

I see you have an AP. I have a bunch of questions regarding the AP. But I'll start a new thread for it.

Thanks. :)

Mary

Hi Mary,

You are right about the prices on the e-mail resort prices. I didn't pay too much attention to the prices since I zoomed in on the YC.

As far as the e-mails and postcards being a regular thing, I'm not sure if it is or not. I remember awhile back people talking about getting a postcard in the mail so I'd expect Disney to continue to offer this. Maybe you might want to post a thread with this question to see what others have to say. :D

I also know that people have different philosophies as far as making reservations and then later applying a discount. I will say that I usually make my reservation at the resort first and if discounts come out later than that is gravy for me. I like to book in advance and know where we are going to stay. Others wait until discounts come out before booking. You know, that might make a good poll here!:hyper:

Good luck with your planning and let us know what you decide to do! Take care! :wave2:

Hi Jill,

Thanks for being a dork because it saved me money! After reading your post I checked our junk email address and there was a pin for Disney! I called and got my already great rate at WL dropped another $65. I appreciate you posting that info. :wave2:

Hi Tippytoe!

Glad I could help! Maybe I should be a dork more often! Have a wonderful time at the WL. We absolutely LOVED that resort!!
