well...DH finally convinced me to give this whole atkins thing a try. today is day one of our plan...

i think we've both realized that it's very hard to do zero carbs each day...so we're doing a modified version of it right now. it won't be zero carbs but it will be very very very low carbs...i need to go and find some recipes and stuff to help us out.

the bad thing this morning though...we got up so late for work that we didn't have time to make breakfast. :( i'm starving and trying hard not to think about it!!!

anyone have any tips for me? i'm a receptionist for a computer training center and we keep snacks here in the break room for the students we have each week...but everything that's in there is very high in carbs. i don't know how i'm going to fight the temptation...

Hi Scarlett - and Welcome!

I and at least 2 others are starting Atkins today - so we can support each other.

I am still learning about this program - but we have lots of "experts" here and lots of support too!

WISHing you the best of luck! :)

Congratulations and good luck! You will happy to know that Atkins is NOT a zero carb plan! You can have up to 20 carbs per day during Induction (first two weeks) then slowly add carbs a few at a time after that, til you reach a good balance where you're still losing weight and in ketosis.

During Induction, limit yourself to meat, eggs, cheese, and 3 cups of legal vegetables per day. Some legal vegetables are: lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, green pepper, tomatoes, green onion, spinach, zucchini, etc. Stay away from corn, carrots, sweet potatoes and yams.

As for breakfast - I try to have some hardboiled eggs on hand in the fridge, as well as some pre-cooked bacon, sausages, or other meat. Sometimes I have a left-over chicken breast, or hamburger patty. Try to get out of the "breakfast food" mode, and try new things!

Hi Scarlett  I do WW instead of Atkins, so I don't have any advice on that front, but I wanted to welcome you to WISH! I'm glad you're joining us!

Hi Brandi...Welcome to Wish....Everything that Rhonda said is true. Don't feel like you have to have zero carbs...you are allowed 20 carbs FROM ALLOWALBE FOODS...(ie. Eggs, salad (2-3cups). If you have not read the Atkins bood...try and go to the web site...it explains induction and what you can and cannot have.

The one thing that I wanted to mention to you....The ONE thing that I have learned here on WISH...(and I have learned LOTS!!!) the ONE thing that is THE MOST HELPFUL though...is to have a PLAN!!! Did you hear me???? HAVE A PLAN!!!!....Which means...boil some eggs...get some cooked meats...(roasted chicken works best for me)...have some (a little) cheese on hand whatever it is that you will be eating on induction that you are allowed to have!!!

You need to start THINKING about what is BEST FOR YOU!!! This was hard for me to learn...but the sooner I realized it the easier it was for me to live the ATkins way, and NOT eat things that I shouldn't be!!

If you need help...PLease feel free to PM me!!! Hang in there...it does get easier!!

For snacking purposes you could have the veggies allowed on induction- just be sure to measure them so you're not over doing your carb alottment. You can also have string cheese (up to 4 ounces a day), and cut up cubres of salami or summer sausage and SF jello, you can even put a litle whipped cream on there!

The temptation will only be there a few days- you'll lose you appetite for carbs fairly quickly! Just remember- when you think you're just about going to die- the next day that feeling should be gone! :p TOTALLY!!! It's a breeze from that point on!

Hello and welcome, Brandie!

Just wanted to wish you GOOD LUCK!!!! If you can make it through the first week, I hear the rest if MUCH easier!!!

Hope to see you posting often! :)

Hi Brandie,

I started today as well but am doing WW (without the meetings right now). I can't do Atkins myself (potential kidney issues) but wanted to say hi!

thanks for the welcome everyone!!

i've been over to the atkins website and i've printed off some stuff to help us out...DH got us started last night by boiling some eggs and has some other misc stuff already prepared. this morning was just tough cuz we were so late that we didn't have time for anything. but i made it all the way to lunch without snacking on anything! and for my lunch, i had my salad. i'm not normally one who is dependant on sweets or snacks unless it's sitting there. that's what makes it so hard here at work. we have the stuff like chips, trail mixes, pretzels, popcorn, cookies, and candy. it's very tempting, but i'm trying like mad to avoid it all! the challenge will come here in the next hour...i have to bak otis spunkmeyer cookies each afternoon for the students...heaven help me...

scarlett873- welcome!

I am doing the Atkins diet and I am not a breakfast person. I eat (for breakfast, snack or when I do not have a good food option) the Atkins Breakfast Bars. They are not too bad. I get them in my local supermarket in the health food section. I also think Wal-mart sells them. You can eat them during induction!!;) After the two weeks, check out all the low carb Advantage bars (by Atkins) they are good. Only 2 carbs.

I do agree with others, plan your meals. have at least one protein meal frozen so you can pop it in the microwave, rather than order a pizza delivery (a lesson I will not forget!!)

The first few days are the hardest. I do not miss the sweets or carbs. Mixed drinks.........different story!!

Good luck!!

I try to keep "slim jim" beef snacks or beef jerky in my desk - no carbs and takes a LONG time to chew so you really feel like you're eating something! I also love those little cheese cubes - keep them in the fridge here at work and of course - not just the hard boiled eggs, but deviled eggs - a dash of tobasco really peps them up!

Macadamia nuts are expensive but I treat myself to a jar every payday and they're great!!
