Here is the scoop, we own 215 pts at Vero, right now I still have 36 points left for 2004 (Dec. use year) and then 215 comming up for 2005. It costs me around 88.00 a month in maint. fees and our son is now almost 12. He would like to do Disney one more time in April 2006 (we have other trips booked until then) so my question is,
Would it be more logical to sell now and save the 88.00 amonth towards one last disney trip or to wait and use the points in April 2006 and then sell?
We really have loved DVC and certainly have gotten our monies worth but now we are really into cruising and are looking at other lines etc. it just does not seem like we will utilize them.

Personally, I'd list them now. Sometimes it does take some time to sell Vero points, and if you really only intend on using them one more time, I'd get rid of them. If you can sell them quickly, you could save 18 months in dues between now and then, so about $1600. Now, you'll have to pay for your accomdations for the April 2006 trip, but the $1600 could end up being a wash there, or pretty close. Now, prices on resales might go up a few $$$ per point, so you could lose a little money there, but if you got the money back, you could also invest the money and probably make as good as a return or better than a few $$$ per point. I'd want my investment back in cash, rather than wait and keep paying for something I knew I was going to dump anyway. Only you can decide if you want DVC type accomdations in 2006, or if a regular room will do.

Are you totally against renting your points? That might be an option for you instead of selling. You can use the points yourself when you need a Disney "fix" and rent them when you feel like a cruise. I say this because we have gone on many cruises and, after a while, felt like we needed a break to do other things!

If you know for a fact you want to sell and don't need your initial investment right away, I would definitely wait and sell after your next trip as the brisk sales @ SSR have created price per point increases that are also elevating the value of the other resorts as well. Plus, I don't have any data on this at all but I wonder if the threat of one hurricane after another has temporarily affected resale offers @ VB.

Good luck with your decision!

I believe that once you sell they cancel all of the trips you have booked. You would have to wait until after your trip in 2006 if it's on points

The trips we actually have booked we are paying cash for, I was going to use points for one more disney trip in 2006 (April) I am still toying with the whole selling thing. Good point about vero and the hurricanes I may get more money for my points if I wait and let that memory die down some, I just hope I won't get slammed with higher maint. fees to repair vero
