this board in general and Gdad specifically are very bad influences on me.

I have a 50mm 1.2 AIS lens being delivered next week. I found what I hope will be a great one on Ebay at a great price. Since I grew up on manual focus lenses that does not bother me. Jeff's great pictures also were a draw.

My question is should I sell my nifty fifty 1.8. It takes little space in the bag and it would be a great backup but also do not need two 50's! It is less than a year old and in pristine condition.

So... What do you think?

NAS is a wonderful thing if you can afford it!

If I were you I'd probably sell it, unless you have a backup body you might want to use it on. But then I'm all about efficiency and not having extra stuff cluttering up my life. Of course you wouldn't know that if you saw my house because try as I might I cannot persuade anyone in my family to join in this philosophy. :rolleyes1

Oh Susan I know! I know! Where is the postman!!!

Cameras and lenses are to buy, not to sell! ;)

On the more practical side, I photographed a fast moving play where I wanted the shallow depth of field of a large aperture lens but I sure would not have wanted to manual focus all evening! Keep the 1.8.

I wouldn't sell it!!! Once you get a sharp copy never let it go. Like you said, "it only takes up a little room and would make a good back-up".

I agree with those who say do not sell, it is not costing you anything to keep it, and if you should ever drop the other one,,it's good to have a backup on hand..

I agree that you should keep it. It's really not worth much in the grand scheme of things, and is probably worth more to you to have it around "just in case." At least, that's what I would do.

Oh blame me! ;) Glad I could help and be a bad influence.

Here are a few more from last Friday. Dance class and a trip to the park- All at f1.2 of course. :goodvibes

BTW- I am not getting rid of my 50/1.4 AF any time soon- because I love it too. It has the same dreamy kind of signature look wide open.

Sell?! I didn't think that was a word in your vocabulary :rotfl:

I agree with everyone else, I'd keep it. What was said about not always wanting to manually focus is true...one day you might get lazy and just want to slap on a 50 and let it autofocus, and then you'll be happy you still have the 1.8. :thumbsup2

Gonna show us some pics with the new 1.2 when it arrives?? :goodvibes

Ok... gotta ask... WHERE are you guys picking up these f1.2??? I wasn't even aware that Nikon had a f1.2 out there - I knew of the f1.0 - but that one is pretty rare and really expensive. But now I have to know because now I have to have one.
Because that is the ONLY thing that Canon has that I covet out of their line - the 50 f1.2L and the 85 f1.2L

Quick search found 7 for sale online and I didnt even check Ebay :thumbsup2

NAS sigh I wish I could stop but it keeps creeping back :goodvibes

Do not sell it! You will need your precious at the most in opportune time if you do sell it.

I looked it up when Jeff got his and found some on KEH.com. If you go into "Nikon Manual Focus" and then "Fixed Focal Length"----a few came up in there. I saw a few on E-bay as well, but like I said, this was a few weeks ago now.

Good luck!

WOW Jeff! Those photos are awesome! I really like the bokeh on the ones in the park. Now I want one, dang it!:rotfl:

I picked up mine this morning and the only place I could play was at my office. Can you tell I like Disney? The lens is amazing. I forget how well made some of the more mature lenses are. This one came in the old hard leather case with the hood and a uv filter. It looks and works great!

Congrats and very nice! :woohoo:

I really like the one of the....the....I'm not really sure. It looks like it's a thermos of some sort, like a portable coffee mug with Mickey's pants all over it. :goodvibes And on a side note, I really like the Stitch statue that it sitting on your table under your castle picture. Very cute.

Is this your home office or your office at work? If it's at work, I would guess you have a lot of people stopping by just to peek in to see all of your neat stuff. I know I would---offices are usually so, blah.

Thanks, that is my work office. The print is the one I refer to when people ask how large you can print a 6mp image. 24x36.

My office is very popular with the kids and grown ups. I am very lucky to have a friend that knew John Hench. He was the officail Mickey artist for about 45 yrs. He died several years ago. Unfortunately my friend did as well and I got some limited edtions and original pieces signed by John. So I have a collection of kid stuff, my stuff and good stuff.

The mug was a mickey mug!

Very nice!! So can you really print a 6mp image at 24 x 36 and it look like a print?? :confused3 I thought the best I could hope for was around 11 x 14 without it looking pixelated.
