OK, am I being a prude here?

"Quality" is subjective.

And I don't get the problem with You Spin Me?? Maybe it's because I don't know the new version, since the original rocked and remakes tend to be crappy. But for pete's sake... they sing it in The Wedding Singer. It can't be that bad ;)

The new version has different lyrics from the one that was in The Wedding Singer.....look it up, you will probably understand what people are objecting to. ;)

Personally I don't think that you are being a prude for not wanting your daughter to listen to Kesha.
I don't have a huge problem with that song TBH, but the song that I absolutly cannot stand is Rude Boy by Rhianna, my DD4 was in the car and it came on, I was concentrating on driving so didn't switch channels and next thing you know a tiny little voice from the back seat is innocently singing "give it to me baby like boom boom boom" I honestly think that this song is the most innappropriate song to play on the radio!!
It actually makes me quite mad! I will pay more attention to it next time and switch he boom boom butt off! :)

I don't like to use the "over their head" argument at all. Regardless of if the child "gets" the meaning or not, what parent wants their kid suddenly belting out some of those lyrics in public? Or, as a PP suggested, what if they decide to look up the lyrics online and come across the meanings?

I was shocked to find out my SIL lets my 4-year old nephew watch the Family Guy on TV. She says that he likes cartoons and doesn't understand the humor anyway. The thing is, the kid is smart, and he will repeat those things to other people. He repeated some of it to my MIL and she didn't seem to find it funny.

There are 1000's of other songs that have catchy beats that kids can dance to, and sing, without anyone having to worry about meanings. I don't think the OP needs to feel like a prude for eliminating something that is basically "junk food" from their child's life. Offer an alternative, and the child will be fine.
