Foul language doesn't just mean swearing to me. I don't want to hear my dd singing filth, and trash whether it has a curse word in it or not. Right Round is a perfect example of that foul trash.

I don't think anyone is looking up to her as a role model. They don't know a thing about her other than the lyrics to one or two catchy but obnoxious songs. That's not role model status IMO.

We hear it in the car. I don't really like it but oh well. My DD 11, asked my why, I told her about the line about using "jack" to brush you teeth or gargle with. She didn't even know what it meant she just shrugged her shoulders.
I guess they are just listening to the beat of the song and the music it self and no thinking about the words. That being said, I probably wouldn't down load it for her because I don't like it. I do have to admit that my kids love Ima Be by the Blackeyed Peas and we don't have a clean version of it, They listen to it here but I won't put it on their I-touches for everyone else to hear.

To the OP, I think it is great that you are standing your ground. Parents shouldn't have to worry about being the kids friend or being the cool parents. You need to do what you,the mom, think is appropriate.

This is my 12, almost 13 DD, the meaning behind the words goes right over her head. It the beat of the music that she likes. I could rattle off a couple dozen songs, that have a questionable line or two, she and her friends are totally oblivious to the menaing of what is being said.

DD and her girlfriend did ask who Mick Jagger is, so we showed them a picture and got Ewwwwsssssssss outta both of them. Kick 'em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger. Guess guys looking like Mick aren't our girls ideas of keepers.

And this is one, that I would think would really go over their heads. I just read the lyrics (didn't remember what all it said, myself) and don't really think that most kids would know from hearing it what it meant. Heck, I had to READ it, to know for sure.

I don't fight this battle anymore, DD is 17 now and listens to whatever she wants. But fortunately she's drifted to country so it's pretty clean....well, anybody remember "save a horse, ride a cowboy"?

But I can remember having this issue not so long ago with many songs. Lots of them they have NO IDEA what they're singing. I was the mom who would explain all the lyrics to the kids.

Double-entendres in lyrics have been around for ages. If you think this stuff is raw, have you ever heard Bessie Smith's "You've Got to Give Me Some"? She recorded it in 1928! Then there's "Whole Lot a' Shakin' Goin' On" (did you ever notice that the bull in that song only has one horn)?

PS: Sorry OP, I meant to say that you're perfectly within your rights, and right besides. Even if little kids don't know the meaning in the lyrics originally, we have a duty as parents to explain why it isn't appropriate for someone that age to be repeating them.

A funny example of how things really haven't changed...
My aunt was going on and on about how crappy tv is these days, she can't believe what they put on tv. Well that night's movie was 007, one of the originals. And she was happy to watch it. Of course in the first few minutes, girls in skimpy outfits, language not so great... And I was like "this is any better than what's on today?"

Most country stations will play old and new stuff all the time. And there's some crazy songs of long ago that kind of make you wonder and they're no worse than what's recorded today.

He must still be loved somewhere, I noticed at the store that he was plastered all over the cover of about 4 magazines; People being one of them . The girls here love him (not dd--she is too busy drooling over Taylor Lautner: Momma raised a girl with good taste ) and one girl is going to his concert in Atlanta--her grandma buying the expensive tickets and paying for the weekend trip another is going to Memphis to see him. Sometimes I think parents have lost their mind over getting these kids to concerts.

Here's the other thing. Why do we need to let little kids listen to junk when tehre's so much quality stuff to hear? Its just not necessary. Now, I know that they will hear it with friends, etc., but that doesn't mean you have to let them have access to it all the time. Do you let your kids eat candy bars anytime they want? So, why would it be OK to have a steady diet of junk gonig into their brains? Our kids are worth so much more than that.

Google the lyrics to the one by Flo Rida.... itsure isn't the version in the Wedding Singer LOL...unless the wedding singer was about oral sex and pole dancing.
