My sister and I are thinking of a short Las Vegas trip this October(with our DH's). We'd like to stay on the strip in a very nice hotel, but not break the bank. What are your suggestions for hotels? Is there a good place to price out vacation packages? We're not gamblers, but want to go check out the hotels and maybe do a day trip to Hoover Dam & Grand Canyon.

My husband and I always stay at The Flamingo . The location is the best--mid strip across from Ceasars. The hotel is very nice, newly renovated rooms at a great price. I usually book from the website. We often get comp offers and then I will call. You can watch the rates and if they drop after booking call for an adjustment. Good luck!

Hi,

I would check out MGM Grand, Treasure Island, because they usually run deals through out the year. If you sign up on there sites they will send you deals by e-mail.

Don't get me wrong, all of the big hotels are gorgeous. WE just prefer to stay more in the middle of things. Signing up on the web sites is a great idea. I almost always find it better to book directly with the hotel rather than with a travel site. (With the exception of a last minute trip on Hotwire.com) It always pays to call and ask.

When there check out Tix4tonight. They are located on the strip in several locations. The Fashion Show mall is one, another is at the "giant Coke bottle." They open at 12:00 noon each day and sell tickets for most Vegas shows at half price for that night only. They also sell Madam Tussauds. A great deal!

I prefer Paris. Great location and beautiful hotel!

Do a search here on the CB for Vegas. This topic is discussed quite a bit :hippie:

I've stayed at Treasure Island, Flamingo and Bally's. Treasure Island was nice. Flamingo has a GREAT pool, but I'm not sure how the weather is in October to use it, and Bally's had the biggest rooms. My DH liked Treasure Island out of the three and would stay there again. If we were to go during a hot month, I would definitely go back to Flamingo. If not, I think I would like to try the Mirage.

We got the best deals booking a package. America West had good prices. Expedia, which we went through last year, had a good deal.

The site S.C. gave you, www.lasvegastalk.com is a great site!

Good luck and have a great time!

Ive stayed at quite a few hotels there this past year. Of those I stayed at recently, I enjoyed the Paris and Tropicana the best. The Paris is was much more centrally located and the theming is adorable. But the Tropicana was much nicer than I expected it to be. Had a huge room that overlooked the strip, plus the pool is great. Try Vegas.com for more info about the hotels and their location to everything else on the strip. Also give cheaptickets.com a look for good deals once you know where you would like to stay. Enjoy!

So far we've stayed at MGM, Treasure Island, Circus Circus, Luxor, and Flamingo. If you want some place pretty nice - stay away from Circus Circus and Luxor both were fairly run down IMO. Flamingo was nicer than I expected. MGM and TI were the nicest of the bunch I think. We usually get a players club rate at MGM for about $79. All you have to do is join online and you'll also get a 2 for 1 buffett and whatever else they may be offering for specials. We aren't big gamblers and don't usually get compe'd anything but we did get a free night at Flamigo after I won $700 at craps. But again you'll need to join their players club and use your card when you play.

Thanks for the tip! I never heard of this board before! My hubbie and I are Vegas junkies at this point. We've gone twice in the past 12 months and are planning our next trip in July.

We stayed at Monte Carlo and loved the pool area and the "smallness" of the casino/hotel. In other words it's a big place but it's easy to manage. :)

We've stayed at Mandalay Bay and loved it. We visited all the hotels on the Strip because they are attraractions in themselves, and we thought Paris would also be a fun place to stay. The breakfast buffet at Paris is the best!

We go at least 4 times a year to Vegas and have stayed at pretty much every hotel on the strip.

For Nice but not break the bank I'd suggest Paris, NYNY, the Flamingo is in a great spot on the strip but now with the Monorail you can get down the strip quick from MGM to the Convention Center.

For more $$$$ you can stay at the Aladin or the Venetian *which are all suite rooms and beautiful*. We have stayed in Luxor, Excalibur, Circus Circus, and the Tropicana and feel they were the most run down of all of the strip hotels. Of course they don't cost as much but we didn't like any of the rooms. They felt outdated and our room at Luxor was ewwwwwww looked like the floor hadn't been swept in the bathroom..there were a lot of "errant" hairs when we checked in.

Day trips to the Grand Canyon are pretty easy to get. The cost of the tours run anywhere from a little more than $100 up to $300+

A great place to do research on prices and things to do is at www.vegas.com

They have a great website.

I second the Monte Carlo :thumbsup2

My wife says she feels like she is staying in a European hotel. Rooms are big with great views. Location is almost in the middle of the strip and it is easy to navigate the inside.
