Ok all you cruisers FESS UP! LOL

Well since Nov. is DH's busies time of the year, I like being home for the holidays, and in my "spare time" I'm the costume lady for middle school drama - we never travel at the holidays.

However, when we do go I make sure most of the clutter is contained, dust, vacuum, clean bathrooms, and change sheets. If we're leaving later in the day I'll do it the final day. If not it is part of the day before. After being away I don't want to come home to chaos. If for no other reason than there is enough chaos and clutter from the unpacking! :jester:

And there is the family and friends/housesitter issue although they aren't there full time. Kasar if you have your floors redone while gone you're braver than I am. I don't think I'd be comfortable with a contractor in my house when I'm not able to check up on the process at least.

was this thread directed to me? Ive been washing my bathroom, front door and kitchen floors today. I found a third shower in our upstairs bathroom! Hardly ever been used in almost 8years

It's hard enough coming home from a vacation, so coming home to a messy house would just be like shooting myself! (I don't own a gun :D ) I'm not really a neat freak because with 4 kids and daycare in the home, that would be impossible, but I do put everything in its place, make beds and clean bathrooms and kitchen. It's just such a nice feeling to come home to a clean house. Plus, after living in such close quarters with everyone during the vacations, the house can feel so BIG. I remember when my kids were younger and we would come back from a week long trip, my kids would walk into the house and say, "I remember this place!" :teeth:

Plus it also gives me an excuse to get rid of the extra energy I seem to get just before the vacation!

DD will definately know something is going on if I haven't told her by then, she knows just how much mom loves to clean!LOL

Plus who knows, last time my brother acutally brought my luggage in! Have to keep up appearances with the family!LOL

Well, PBANS, you are not the lone dissenter! I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me, but I DO NOT clean before I go on vacation. I, too, as well as my DH, work up until the day before we leave. We also work 40+ hours a week, and rehearse every night for community theatre shows, so we're hardly ever home. Our teenage DD is either at school or work and this is why we NEED a vacation.

We certainly do empty the garbage, and move our cats to the master bath area, so that they can have a large area to "live" while we're gone and not set off the motion detector on the security alarm. We do have a pet sitter come in once a day, but we don't really care whether our house is spotless for her -- she's there to tend to our "babies".

The only time we really clean extremely well is when there is company coming or we're having a party.

We are the opposite of HYGIENE -- we came from such a SPOTLESS environment while growing up, that we feel there's more important things in life besides a clean house.

:D :D

My DH got me into the routine of cleaning up and changing towels and sheets before we leave for vacations. Always extra work for me but at least when neighbors or family check on house it's clean and I only have to worry about laundry when I get back. :bounce: I wanna go cruising with MICKEY!!! :bounce:

I do it too! I work full time, so I usually schedule an EXTRA vacation day before leaving just to get things straightened up. I can't stand coming home to a mess. The laundry from the vacation alone is bad enough! Who wants to add cleaning up pre-vacation junk?!?

I realize this makes me pretty insane. My friends and especially my DH really get a kick out of this wierdness.

Hi Hydster,

LOL! Looks like we'll be cruising together on the Wonder this Thursday...F.Y.I it will be cold here too for Florida on Thursday (though probably not as cold as where you are). Seems we got that cold front coming through that has caused all those aweful tornandos up North. It will be in the mid to upper 50's in the morning and in the low 70's by the afternoon. Thank goodness the Bahamas runs about 10 degrees warmer than Florida! <BG>

PS
The news just said it's 84 degree's in Freeport today!<BG>

In answer to your question...ABSOLUTLY....even if I am just going to stay at their resorts. It's so nice to come home to a clean place (especially after having maid service) and not having to lift a finger even when I get home....okay at least for a day or two anyway. I also make sure that all luandry is done too!
Mmketeer See ya board!:Pinkbounc

I knew there was another reason I like you besides being a fellow DCL fan! :)

I must admit that I do worry about dying with a dirty house (and blowing my image!), but so far it doesn't bother me enough to have a spotless house!

Susan

My house isn't spotless now, it isn't spotless before we cruise and it isn't spotless after. :teeth:

I try to have the clutter picked up and of course all trash is out, but other than that, it's the way it is. I will have to do a "deep cleaning" before my mom comes to visit before the holidays, but that will come AFTER we get back. :)
