Oily Skin Question

Ok, here's my situation, I'm 28 and my face is sooo greasey. It is really starting to bug me. My face has always been kinda oily, never really had any problems with a lot of break outs (just a few here and there), and I tend to have dry patches that tend to move around on my face and hair line. The dry patches I can hadle but the oilyness is now driving me crazy:scared: I have to put moisturizer on my face after it's washed b/c if not it gets really flakey. In the morning, I put on my makeup and by 10am I'm really oily. I'm sure I can't be the only person who is dealing with this. Does anyone have any advice as to how to at least minimize this. It's just on my face, no where else on my body do I have any skin problems. Sorry, I'm just getting fustrated with dealing and not knowing what to do.

Any advice? TIA

I know exactly how you feel - I have extremely oily skin. The one bright side is that at almost 42 years of age there is not a wrinkle in site:woohoo:

After many years of experimenting with products and using everything from cheap to stupid expensive, here is what I have discovered:

I use Cetaphil facial cleanser and moisturizer - use the moisturizer very sparingly and I do put it on as soon as I get out of the shower.

After trying just about every makeup foundation out there and having them all pool up on my forehead in greasy pools within a couple of hours I discovered: Chanel Double Perfection compact foundation ( it is a pressed powder that comes with a sponge applicator) I use a large makeup brush to apply unless I want extreme coverage (like for a night out, etc). This is my extravagance it is $50 but lasts me quite awhile. During the day, I do blot with blot paper.

Good luck, I know how frustrating it is, but remember less wrinkles!

I'm 39 and can say the same. Too bad the strands of gray give me away!

I used to make the mistake of using harsh products in an effort to control the oil, but then my skin would flake and break out because it was trying to replace the moisture I stripped out.

My regimen now is Ice Elements cleanser and moisturizer for normal to oily skin (or it might be normal to combination, I don't have it in front of me) and the Ice Elements Anti-Aging Serum (which includes retinols). My skin is still oily, but it is noon before I have to touch up and powder rather than 9:00 AM. I use Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation and find that it has staying power for me. I tried to use Bare Escentuals and similar products but they made my pores look huge and my skin look shinier than it normally does.

I know how you feel. I still have breakouts often and I'm 35. I also deal with dry, patchy skin at the same time.

I also have to be very careful with what ever I use as I'm allergic to 99% of all man made frangrances that are put in lotions, cleansers, make-up, etc.

I do have a really huge wrinkle on my forehead.
I also don't use blot paper. I just use plain kleenex (not with lotion), napkin or paper towel to blot the oil off my face. Then I will lightly apply some pressed powder.

I have very oily skin as well and I had to accept the fact that there's not much I can do about it. I do wash my face with St. Ives facial scrub, then apply an astringent afterwards to help control breakouts. I have to keep a small bar of Dove soap in my desk so I can wash my face during the day when I feel the oil getting really out of hand. The warmer months are the worst for me because the warmer it is, the more my face produces oily and if I don't wash my face multiple times a day, the oil causes pimples. You just have to experiment with different products and find what works best for you.

I have a mostly oily face, with my cheeks on the dry side. I use a cleanser from Body Shop that I love. It doesn't dry me out more, but I don't have the greasy feeling or pimples I used to have. I'm 41 and still deal with pimples

It's their Tea tree oil cleanser. I love it and recently started my 11 year old using it, too. We have overly sensitive skin due to allergies and neither one of us has had one bit of trouble. DH can use anything, but he also prefers it, too.

We love it so much that one bottle of it stays in the toiletries bag. DH was so happy to open the bag this past weekend while camping and see it, lol!

I have oily skin too, but thankfully don't have a problem with breakouts. (Mostly forehead and nose, eyelids too, what's up with THAT?)

I really like the Basis brand "cleaner clean" cleanser. During the day I will use a mixture of witch-hazel with a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on a cottonball. (I just pre-mix the witch-hazel and lavender). It seems less drying on my cheeks than sea-breeze or alcohol based toners. Makeup coming off isn't an issue because I only wear it for special occasions, and then it's usually just the minimum.

A couple of times a week I'll use the apricot scrub from St Ives.

Same problem here. I use Neutrogena Acne facial wash (2% salycilic acid) and 10% benzoil peroxide twice a day, Mary Kay's Velocity moisturizer (made for teens -- oil free) for the occasional dry spots, and MK oil free foundation. Best I can find, but I still end up doing the blot throughout the day.

I have the same problem. It runs in my family, and we prefer to call it "self-moisturizing skin". :thumbsup2

I'm 37 with nary a wrinkle, and my Mom is 56, with very few noticable wrinkles. I suppose all we "self-moisturizers" will get our payoff as we age -- as our peers look more and more like baseball mitts, we'll be nice and smooth (and probably still oily!)

Thanks for all of the great advice. I made a list and will start trying some different cleansers. addicted_to_WDW, I'm going to try the Neutrgena Healthy Skin Foundation and see how that does for me, too.

Thanks again everyone!! :thumbsup2

If you ever have someplace to go and really want to help keep your oily skin under control, put Milk of magnesia (the white stuff) on a cotton ball and lightly apply it to you face. Let it dry and follow with foundation. Do not apply too heavily (because it dries white). This really works, I have tried it. I read it from the "cosmetic cop" Paula Beguon (sp).
