***OI Meetup*** Winter dates announced

We will be attending Sat. Nov. 16 after getting off a cruise that morning. We have been two 2 events before, both in Dec, so I’m curious to see any differences. Really love Universal’s Christmas decor so I hope some is up by then.

Hoping to be back to our normal Dec. weekend in 2025.

Can’t wait to let the kids try all the Harry Potter drinks! DS is finally tall enough to ride Hulk so that should be fun too.
One of the great things is all the stuff people, but especially parents, can try without dropping money just in case they don't care for it. I think I've had all the HP drinks with the fishy green ale being my favorite. Sadly Duff beer isn't included but has been available.

Questions for folks that have done OI: How are the parks during that 5 - 9 pm period when event guests arrive? I'm asking because we accidentally scheduled out Universal days the same weekend as the event. We thought about getting tickets but 1. We have the Military Freedom Pass and 2. we're staying at a premier hotel, and will have UXP the whole weekend.

We're mostly just worried about it being extra crowded. We'd do the event, but the math just doesn't work out in our favor.

In our experience, the parks are extremely crowded in that 5-9 period. And, sometimes, depending on the security team working that night, the crowds stay pretty bad for an additional hour or so after official close. For our last meetup this past November, the first night was crowded most of the night, and we discovered that regular park guests had been hiding in the area around one of the water rides in US that was closed but not closed off. We reported that to the OI team and noticed that the area was actually roped off with security guards blocking it the next night. Huge difference!

The event is great, though, and you get hotel discounts in addition to free food etc. You can math out the hotel savings and how much food/butterbeer you think your family will consume and see if the math maths out for ya :) One year my group counted the butterbeers we drank and it was...scary lol

FYI pending thr weekend. Good chance park will close at 7 during the winter. But it's def usually a little more crowded when you have the mix of general public and OI people

It's just me and the hubby :) We've been itching to do the event but Military Freedom Pass is $200 per person for 2 parks or $245 for three (Volcano Bay) with unlimited park entry. We booked Premier with CC points so it cost us almost nothing.

Do OI folks with an event ticket staying at a premier hotel also get UXP in the time before the event starts?

I am super excited. Got tickets for Nov 22-23. My bday is on the 23rd and as a huge HP nerd to get to celebrate it there will be awesome! Then we are moving to Disney for a week and will get to celebrate my sister in laws bday there. Even in our 40's we are pretty hyped about this lol

The fishy green ale is surprisingly good! I thought I would be a pumpkin juice gal but it was just okay.

Be aware you may not be able to hop in a popular ride line right before closing as you normally would. Mainly Hagrids, the line may close WELL before park close if it's super busy (as it did on the Nov 2022 meetup Sat night).

Yes, it's a normal park day until official close (except as above, that Hagrids line might close early).

Honestly we're in the minority who would ride Velocicoaster over Hagrid's any day of the week.

Thanks everyone for the advice! It sounds like our best bet is to hit the parks outside of the event during our trip (Sunday-Monday) or early morning on Saturday.

Yes, for Friday nights the parks close at 7 and for Saturdays at 8.

It’s definitely busy during the mix in hours but we usually use those to watch the daytime shows that don’t run during the party, the parade, and the nighttime spectacular if it’s running.

Good points! Our entrance tickets are flexible enough that we can pop in for a bit and see how we feel. Not as much of a loss if it seems like too much.

We try to do mornings and evenings because I don't handle heat well. Last time we went to Universal I blacked out and my husband had to get me back to the hotel in a wheelchair 😅 We have been extremely unlucky on our November/December/January trips the past few years...always seem to get mid to high 80s 🫠

Just was able to book mine too. Doing Aventura this time. Didn't need any of the premier hotels since not doing parks in afternoon. And I'll be at Cabana Bay for HHN.
