I'd like to try Ohano for dinner our last night. Problem is - my 10 year old dd is a picky eater. I've seen the menu and know she won't try any of the wonderful food. Do they serve the regular children's stuff (chicken tenders, hotdogs etc.) if requested?

Also, We would like to time it so that we are there either during the fireworks or exit right before so we can watch them from the beach. How long does the average dinner there last? Which would you pick...watching the fireworks from the restaurant (can you see them from anywhere in restaurant?) or watching from the beach?

When we ate there in May the server offered our kids anything the wanted - they had an option of mac and cheese, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, etc. It was the same as the buffet and you could get as much as you wanted. They had some of the appetizers and then ate their kids meal.

We spent about 1-1.5 hours depending on if you particiapate in the coconut races, etc. If you are close to the window the fireworks would be nice, otherwise you might want to go out to the beach.

That's so good to hear! I think we just might do that. One more question...coconut race?

The kids are given a broom and a coconut, which they sweep around in a circle in a "race" in the restaurant. They do hula hoops too! Everyone that participated got a little prize, I believe it was a candy or something?

My girls can be picky, but they do great eating there. The green beans are very familiar, the salad is really yummy. There is a dip that has pineapple and bananas, my older DD dipped everything in it. Little DD ate it like applesauce! Maybe if you got some turkey and cut it into nuggets with some dip they would like it? They do offer kids entrees too, we were offered, another table asked about it right away.

Ohana offers the same childrens menu as Kona Cafe. Look on Kona's child menu and you will see everything you are able to get at Ohana. When the waiter comes to take your order he may or may not ask of you want the childrens selection. Since my DD is also a picky eater I make sure and tell him what she wants. She always gets the hot dogs and fries. The hostess at Ohana told me one time that Disney is for kids and they are there to please the little ones!

Yes, just tell your waiter that your child would like to order a Kids Meal from Kona next door, they do it often. Now, some people have to pay the buffet cost regardless, others have had their waiter just charge them for the kids meal. Its up to the waiter, but don't be surprised if they tell you they have to charge that kids meal (Ohana buffet) cost.

If you intend on viewing the fireworks from the restaurant, arrive early and be prepared to wait. We did not request a window view, and you couldn't see out of the windows at all. Half the restaurant, it seems, is at a place where you can't view it. You are welcome to walk over and watch, but because of the leveling of the restaurant, you had to bend over to view it, which was way too much trouble for a 14 min fireworks show! LOL. We had already seen it, and weren't bothered at all. Most of hte people around us seemed oblivious to the show going on, just those that could see it seemed interested. They do dim the lights and pipe in the music, however.

I would do a PS for an hour before the fireworks if you want to view it from there, get there a little early, and request a seat with a view upon checkin. =)

It took us about an hour to eat, but we're adults... if you have kids, they may eat quicker =) There is little waiting, since no orders are taken and your food is always prepared.

Food is WONDERFUL!

I too have heard of some being charged the buffet price for the kids meal. Fortunately we haven't experienced that. We've eaten there 5-6 times with DD ordering off the children's menu and always paid the cheaper price. I think I would have to say something if they tried to charge me $14 or whatever it is for a hot dog! LOL!

That's great to know!

My son is not quite 3, can sometimes (alot of times) be a picky eater and doesn't like to sit in a high chair or booster seat most times, so I'm going to get him something to eat beforehand, either in our room or at Captain Cook's downstairs. When we get to 'Ohana, I'm going to immediately order him the Beach Bombe (from what I remember seeing it is Hawaiian shaved ice with rainbow colored syrup in a sand bucket) he loves ice and icy type desserts, so hopefully this will keep him occupied long enough for me and my husband to eat the real food at 'Ohana. Maybe this is something you can try with your daughter. I know she's older but maybe you can get her something somewhere else before hand and just order her a nice fruity drink and dessert once you get there. Whatever you decide have a great time!
