Hi all-

The big family trip to WDW is less than a week away! One night we have planned to eat at O'hana. I am wondering about that plan now.

First, since the menu change, it seems that I have read overwhlemingly negative reviews from DISers. Not necessarily about the food, but lots of negative comments about the service--and not many accolades for the food either. I'm usually the first to say don't listen to reviews, everyone's taste is different. But, bad service is bad service (I know, we had some at WDW this weekend!). Bad service mixed with mediocre food makes for a miserable meal, in my experience. :sad2:

Secondly, having experienced less than stellar service this week, I really want to avoid it next week, especially with a party of nine and my dad needing a low-sodium dietary accomodation.

If you have been to O'hana in the last few weeks, please give me your feedback. Would you go back again soon? Other suggestions where I could get an ADR for nine on short notice if we do decide to change?

Thanks!!!

We enjoyed O'hana. There is so much food, it is overwhelming. There were a few things that I did not care for such as the sausage and steak but the salad, shrimp, chicken wings and wonton chips were awesome. Also, the dessert was by far the best dessert from our whole entire trip! I thought the service was a little slow but good...I would rate O'hana high on our must do list for our next trip. (by the way, we considered cancelling too from poor reviews but we were so glad we did not!)
Good luck and have a magical trip!

Dana

Yes! I never ate there before the menu change, but I thought most of the food was fantastic. You can read my detailed review of Ohana's in my dining reviews, I just added Ohana actually.

We dined there the Friday night before we left. We really enjoyed it, but I have never seen so much food. Our waitress and her trainee went out of their way to make my vegetarian DD something she'd like to eat. We loved the potatoes and I loved the vegetables. My kids devoured the shrimp. We had a window table with a great view of Hallowishes. When they say it's all you can eat, they mean dessert, too. They brought us another serving of the bread pudding, ice cream and caramel banana sauce... and I'm sorry to tell you we ate it... :rotfl:

I would recommend going. For most places there are people that don't like what is served and some that think it is great. There seemed to be more complaints about the proposed changes than there have been since the changes were implemented. So I would give it a chance.

This was my family's favorite restaurant during our stay 2 weeks ago. Food was outstanding and service was terrific. We were allowed non-alcoholic smoothies as part of the plan and was very satisfied with the entire experience. Our 6 year old daughter loved the hula hoop contest and the coconut races, too! We'll definitely return here!

Have a great trip! :flower:

Yes this was one of our favorite restaurants too. They also gave us a choice of non alcohlic smoothies. And if you get a chance try to be there when they show wishes at MK.

Have a great time and a great trip. :goodvibes

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I will leave it on the agenda. I'm glad; DD7 remembers it from a trip almost three years ago. She wants to be back to the "meat fest with the hula hoops." Thanks!

My family is the pickyest eaters on the face of the earth and they LOVED it. My son liked the dessert so much we asked for the reciepe and I made it at home. We ate here our first night and my DH wanted to call to see if they had any openings on any other night that we were going to be there so we could go back. Also, our server was wonderful (not too slow, not too fast and extremely friendly and helpful). When I asked about one of the dipping sauces (which I loved) he thought I was asking because I was allergic and was very concerned (I got the reciepe for that too). So as you can see I would advise everyone to go here. It was GREAT.

During our Spring trip during the last week of April we tried Ohana. It was the best meal of our entire trip.

There were a few factors that made it so special.
We got a seat right by the window with a fantastic view of the Castle.
Our server was terrific.
The food knocked my sox off. I love the all you can skewers.
I really enjoy the atmosphere. I love the Polynesian look.

By the way, we were staying at the Polynesian. I've stayed at most WDW resorts and feel the Polynesian can't be beat!!!

I would definately give it a try.

I say you have to go, you will be disappointed if you dont at least see for yourself!!

As for me and my family - never again!! It was the all time rudest meal we've encountered!! The food was not good. The pork, was great. The steak was a very low quality, but so heavily marinated - you're not supposed to notice... the shrimp, I do not like peppers, and they cannot seperate the flavors of peppers - it was very sticky, just strange... the service so very slow, to me that was inexcusable... no wait... the attitude of having to do the children's games, the announcer knew that parents would not accept they would do this 3 times... The wontons were so over cooked, that they had grease pouring off of ours sitting on the plate - not good!!

For us there wasnt anything to reccommend... it was loud, not relaxing...

We went last summer, and it was our absolute favorite, I debated on changing over to Kona, but decided I needed to go - glad we did, so now we never have to go again!!

I cancelled a reservation for 12 today.

The reason I cancelled our ressie was that many folks posted recently about long waits to be seated there even with an ADR. This brought back memories of our own long waits to be seated there and I'm thinking on NYE with a party of 12 we may be in for a loooooooong wait. That's just not how I want our grand gathering to start off.

We had a wonderful time when we ate there at the end of September! Great food, the service good and the kids had a blast. The only thing I didn't like was the sausage....blech! Their new dessert is very yummy!

I say keep the ADR! I was glad we did!

Haven't had the bread pudding yet, but can you share the recipe???? Every time I read about it I want to make it. YUM! Thanks! :flower:

yes to Ohana, and NO to O'hana! AARRGGHHH! LOL
Polynesian, NOT Irish!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have to give it a yes vote for O'hana.

This based on our visit in 2003. Good food and good service.
