Ohana's or Kona's? Advice for a newbie?

We have ADR's set up for the same day at both, and we will cancel one, but which? We are family that appreciates quality over quantity.

Ohana's - 5:00 pm
(I keep reading some mixed reviews, and I'm worried, because I really like veggies and I think we're booked for too many buffet meals already...)

Kona's - 7:00 pm
I'd love to be able to see Wishes from the Poly after the meal....

Any advice from more experienced WDW diners would be very very much appreciated.

I ate at both last August and my dinner at Kona was one of my favorites of the trip. Everything I had from appetizer to dessert was so good that I am repeating the same meal in June!

I am also repeating O'Hana for dinner since my daughter loves it there. If I had to pick only one Kona Cafe would definitely get my vote.

Good luck deciding but I think either way you will have a great meal.

P.S. We also at at Kona and then watched the fireworks from the Poly beach afterwards. It was one of the best nights of the trip!

'Ohana is more of an "experience". If you have children, there are activities they will enjoy. The food is good, usually, and very plentiful. The dessert is out of this world.

Kona Cafe is more sterile. There is not any character to the restaurant. The food is very good. But Kona Cafe itself lacks atmosphere.

Believe it or not, our most relaxing dinners have been at 'Ohana.

Hope that helps.

First let me start off by saying we have yet to eat at either restaurant, but like you we prefer quality over quantity. We are arriving in 7 days and staying in one of the club rooms. I called the concierge and asked this same question. They recommended that for a celebration meal and our welcome to the Poly dinner experience we select O'hanas, so that is what we are going with. Since the Kona gets such good reviews I cancelled our Boma buffet ADR and we now plan to eat there another night. O'hanas seems to be a family favorite with many. The Kona has been described more as a cafe and is open to the lobby, but the menu looks great. If you havent seen the menus go to Allears.net. I have spent hours looking at all the menus. To bad we can't eat at them all. I will post a dining review of both when we get back. My take on the two restaurants is that O'hanas is more of a "dining experience" restaurant, where Kona may have the better menu - so it's tough to pick just one! Enjoy your trip!

I think Kona has the better food. 'Ohanas was good too but a little noisy and active. You can see the fireworks afterwards from either if you go to the beach.

MaggieW! We can hang on the restaurant board too!:hyper:

Anyway, back to the 'Ohana/Kona debate. They are both good, and totally different. If you appreciate quality, I'd go with Kona. If you want an experience I'd go with 'Ohana.

We go to 'Ohana every trip and Kona every other trip. We love 'Ohana. It's such a good time! My DH loves the food at Kona though... so you have quite a decision!

Our family's favorite meal of the trip this past December was at Ohanas. Everyone loved it and thought the food was delicious. I have a 4 and 6 year old and had quite a few character meals, and considering this one had no characters they loved it the best. There is lots of food and it is very yummy. As for fireworks, you can see them right from the windows inside ohanas also.
