We have a PS at O'Hana's next week and a member of our party has a severe allergy to shellfish. Does anyone know if the shrimp are cooked with the other food (on the same cooking surface) and do they come on a kabob alone or with the other food? Anyone had experience with special requests for food allergies at Disney restaurants before? Thanks for your replies.

I don't have any experiences personally, but I've read many reports about nut or seafood allergies. All the person had to do was ask, and the peanut sauce was brought out separately or not at all, or the other meats were kept separate from the shrimp.

First off....WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!! We are glad you found us.

Our DS has a peanut allergy and we able to dine at Ohana and have a wonderful time. We had called ahead about it, but they basically said to mentioned it to our waiter. We did and he promptly brought the chef out to talk to us. He went over everything, where it is cooked, and stuff like that, telling us what was safe for DS. What works out well for us is DS is not an adventurous eater, so he had a kids meal anyway, LOL, but they were still very helpful in letting us know exactly what was made where and with what.
I believe the shrimp is on its own skewer, but Im not sure how close it is cooked to the other meats. Im sure if you mention the allergy they would take precautions to cook the other meat that the allergic person is going to have safely. Also, there are shrimp I believe in the wontons, so they may need to take precautions with the appetizers too.

So my advice is to just let your server know about the allergy and they should take very good care of you all.
Enjoy! Ohana is really a lot of fun with delicious food!

I have a shellfish allergy and a tree nut allergy and 'Ohana was able to accommodate me with no problems. I told the waitress when we arrived and soon after, the chef came out to talk to me regarding everything I could and could not have. The shrimp was on a separate skewer and I was assured that the meat did not come in contact with it. Actually I've never had a problem at any WDW restaurant. The chefs are always very nice and willing to go over the entire menu or walk the buffet with me. I hope you enjoy your meal!:D

Thanks so much for your prompt replies! I feel a lot better about trying this restaurant now. A severe allergic reaction is not a good way to start a vacation! We will follow your suggestions.
