We are going with my mom who is a very picky eater. At O'hana's they have spicy shrimp. Is it cooked spicy or is it spicy because of the sides they give with it? Can you ask for not spicy? We are a group of 8. One not on the DDP, family of 3 on it and family of 4 on it. I see gratuity is added to parties of 8 or more. How does that work? If appetizers are ordered, can they be on separate checks? This is the first time we've used DDP and I'm dreading it since were going as a group.

I can't answer your question about tips, sorry. But I know if you tell the server exactly what is going on when you sit down (those on DDP, those not and that you will be ordering appetizers which are not on DDP) they will make sure everything is handled appropriately. Honestly I have heard stories about it taking a while to make sure everything is paid out properly but it can be done.

With the tips I assume it will just be a total at the bottom and you will just pay for it via cash, room key or credit card. We are taking cash to pay all our tips with.

You can order appetizers and pay for them oop if you wish to. As far as the shrimp goes, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't eat the shrimp and find there is plenty of other meat to fill me up.
Not sure how they handle the tip in your case.

'Ohana's is a set menu brought out family style so there aren't any appetizers to order. The only thing to order that is extra would be alcoholic drinks. I have never heard the shrimp there described as spicy and there are so many other choices I would not be concerned about it. Tell the server you are two different families and to split the check between the two. It would have to be done that way anyway to make sure each set of meal credits is deducted from the correct room key. Just check your receipt before leaving to make sure the correct amount of credits were deducted etc.

All tipping discussion is limited to the Disney Dining Tipping Info thread, which is stickied at the top of this forum. Your specific question is answered under #5 in the first post. :goodvibes http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2300858

The first post of the thread also explains why there is just one tipping thread and has general thread guidelines as well as the FAQ.

My 5 year old is picky and shehad no problem with the shrimp, she hates any heat in her food too,

As a PP said, Ohana's doesn't have a menu, they only server the "all you can eat" family style meal.
I would check out the menu to see what it entails, but there are no appys to order.

Now about the shrimp, I don't think it is spicey, not sure where you heard that from but it is not peeled nor cleaned. YOu have to peel and clean it yourself at the table.
Just an FYI, some people don't want to deal with that.

As for the other meats, nothing is spicey. Everything is grilled on skewers and sauces are given to dip in if you wish. Now a couple of those can be spicey but not the meats.
