OHANA-WOW! IMPROVED so much...

We have braved Ohana on all our trips because the kids love it, this time I was so pleasantly surprised... We had a 6:30 ADR but checked in at 5:30 and were seated immediately and even in the main area by a window! Service was amazing, food was better than ever and they kept it coming even the shrimp!
I could really see how they have improved

I have an ADR for 'Ohana in Dec. and even with all the negative reviews, I feel that I can't visit WDW without eating dinner there!!! But its def. good to hear that there have been improvements! Makes me feel even better about my decision to keep my 'Ohana dinner ADR!!!

I'm glad to hear it - we have the QSDP for our first WDW trip in March 2011, but we did make one ADR for Ohana, paying for it OOP. The kids really wanted to eat there, but I've been concerned about the reviews.

silly question, but im not much of a shrimp eater and going to give it a shot this time because everyone keeps raving about how good it is here. We have to take the shell off of the shrimp? Or does it come without the shell? How easy or difficult is it to remove?

The shell slides right off with little effort! The process dirties your hands, so prepare to use plenty of napkins during the meal!

Glad to read something positive about 'Ohana amid countless threads full of criticism. I love this board but learned a long time ago to take the individual reviews lightly. Opinions change around here every other week thanks to an intense herd mentality!

So nice to hear! We had a few disappointing experiences there, but tried it once more last summer. We were pleasantly surprised - it ended up being our favorite restaurant that trip. We're headed back there next month and are really looking forward to it.

Carry some wet wipes with you it's amazing how many uses we have for them in the World this is just one of them

Even during low crowd times? When we're going Disney is usually pretty empty. If it is all booked up it'll narrow down our choices.

We were there about a week and a half ago and it was beyond awful - both the food and the service. We won't be back. I'd rather go to a place that I know it will be good rather than take a chance where it's hit or miss.

was there on saturday the 18th sept and was very dissapointed with the food and service ...the only good thing was the steak it was very tender but you could tell the waiters and waitresses were really overworked and everything that was 'DROPPED' off at the table was cold....

I find that really hard to believe about he food being cold, it is a very short walk from the meat counter to any of the tables and they are under heat lamps until delivered???
Ours was all very hot and delicious

We had our first dinner dining at Ohana's on the 17th - 5pm reservations.

The food was hot & delicious and the variety good. We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant very much. Food-wise, we were given:

- coconut bread
- delicious salad
- chicken wings
- some kind of noodles
- some kind of stuffed dumplings
- veggies
- 3 kinds of meat on skewers (steak, chicken, pork)
- 3 kinds of dipping sauces for the meat
- shrimp
- I think there was something else but cannot recall...
- a very good desert, but very small portion. Would have liked more of it.

The staff came around a few times asking if we wanted more food while we ate. It was always hot or cold appopriately.

HOWEVER - yes, however - I do agree the staff were understaffed and rushing around! Definately Ohana's needs more staffing on the floor.

The lady who kept speaking over the P.A. system... Her I could have cheerfully silenced after a few minutes. Ohh, she was just too sickenly cheerful sweet. Her and being placed at a table right UNDER a speaker had me downing 2 advils just after dinner.

Make sure the staff do not give you a table under a speaker!!

My husband & I agreed we would go back for dinner again. But preferrably a bit later when most kids won't be around. Only so we don't hear that annoying lady again.

If free dining has been extended to include your week, then yes, the restaurants may very well be packed even though the parks are relatively empty. If you have the dining plan and expect to eat TS every day, then I would make ADR's now. You can always change them when you get there if the restaurants have plenty of availability, but if they turn out to be booked solid, you will be OK.

I tried to get 'Ohana at 180 days out for our upcoming trip in mid-December and couldn't get anything. And we're a party of 2! I checked for a month or so until my DH said that he didn't care if he ate there again, so I booked something else instead.

I checked 180 days out for our October trip, and I was only able to get a 9:30 ADR for us 2. I am really glad I got an ADR, but 9:30 is so late, I am hoping the food will still be up to par.

Glad to hear the good reports. We are eating there for the first time in about 2 weeks (well 2 weeks from yesterday!)
