I have a reservation for Ohana - but have been trying for months to get a different day...we will be there starting next week...is there any chance if I still can't get a reservation on the day I really want that we will get in?

No. Or, rather, the chances are so very low that it is likely to be a waste of time trying.

Best chance to sneak in anywhere is at open, or around the last reservation of the night. I doubt it's even possible for Ohana breakfast.

Yeah we are looking for dinner...I will keep trying to see if I can get the date I want - worse comes to worse we go with the current one I have...

The chances aren't great, but I find that if you check 24hrs in advance (when cancellations must be made to avoid no show charges) that I've had some luck getting a time slot to open at places that were booked. You'll have much more of a chance if your party is small and you are flexible. DH & I tried going right when Ohana opened and had to wait 30 minutes but we were fine with that. We've also stopped in later in the evening, about an hour before closing, and we were seated right away and there was actually quite a few empty seats around us. Don't give up!

Not particularly likely. I've never technically tried to walk in, but we once made the mistake of booking our ADR for too late in the evening. Our daughter was exhausted and cranky 2 hours before our ADR. So we went, and requested to get in early if at all possible, then waited in the lounge...for 2 hours and 20 minutes. Not only could we not be squeezed in early, we waited until well after our ADR time haha. DD at least got a chance to doze!!

I agree with trying to get a last minute ADR the night before, instead of showing up the day of. Because you are asked to cancel any unneeded reservations on the prior day by 11:59pm ET, a lot of people cancel between dinner time and 11:59pm. During dinner is a good time. Their wallets just took a big hit, and more importantly, they're feeling incredibly stuffed full of food... uncomfortably so. They're having second thoughts about going to an all-you-care-to-enjoy dinner the next day. So you see cancellations start to take place around 7:00pm and remain steady all evening. Then from 10:00-midnight, there's a final push for cancellations as people make last minute decisions to change plans.

During my last trip, this was my chance to pounce. All evening, I would check the MDE app. Ohana had been booked for months and I had given up all hope. But now, suddenly on my third try, a reservation for 2 opened at 6:45pm. I waited to book it, trying to figure out whether I could make it after my last FP+. I hesitated too long. Within 2 minutes it was gone.

I was unsuccessful four more times that night. Later, at 11:30pm, I found a table for 2 at 9:30pm. Nice! But was it too late for dinner? As my girlfriend and I discussed and agreed to take it, but the reservation was gone again!

Lessons: (1) check often between dinnertime and midnight, the day before, (2) if you see a reservation, don't think about it... just grab it within seconds!, (3) enjoy your meal!

We employed these lessons the next night, and that 'Ohana meal we had been trying to secure for months was suddenly ours!

If you want to practice this technique, you can even do it from home to see how likely an opening will come up for tomorrow night. (Just don't actually book the reservation unless you'll use it tomorrow! This is only to get a sense of your chances!) This was based on my anecdotal experience, and YMMV.

Keep checking! I got a 6:35pm Ohana dinner last night and our vacation starts in 10 days! I've seen many Ohana times for around 9:00pm while I've been checking and have been checking for about a month. I've seen Ohana breakfasts several times as well.

when we were there last...we loved the food and the atmosphere...we said to our wait person...wish we had gotten another ressie on another night...and she said...sometimes right before they have the 5 pm reservation people at the podium to walk up and see if they can fit you in at that time...sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt...but just in case...

We tried to walk up with two people last week at opening and were told it would be an hour wait before they could tell us if they could even fit us in.

A co worker was at WDW 3 weeks ago, had tried for months to get a breakfast ADR at 'Ohana. She had resigned herself that it was going to be a disappointing "no go" and happily went on enjoying her vacation.

A check on her MDE app at bedtime on their second to last day at WDW brought the perfect time and place to her to cap off a magical stay...

11:45 pm on the night before - 'Ohana breakfast (for 8!!) was there for the taking!! She was thrilled. :)

Always keep checking, especially during the last minute cancellation window.

We were able to get seated as a walk up but I believe it was a manager pixie dusting us. I made an idiotic mistake and didn't realize after a certain point in the day MDE defaults to the next day. I was so excited that I found a reservation for us at Ohana for that night that I made it with out really looking as we watched the fireworks from the Poly beach (we were staying at the Poly). I was so excited even that I switch all our other reservations for the next day and swapped 'Ohana breakfast for a Tusker House we found. I went and double checked everything after all the excited and realized everything was 1 day off. :scared: Needless to say I screwed up our entire weekend dinning in 15 minutes! I got the Tusker House fixed on my own so no big deal there but there was no hope for 'Ohana. I was convinced I had ruined our perfect Disney day (it really had been a perfect Disney day) so I told my fiance and our friend and they were like whatever no big deal what happens happens you didn't ruin it. I could see in my fiance's face though that he was a little sad. So I told the boys to go back to the room and I'd go see if they could do anything. I went to the podium and explained what I had done and so the podium called the manager to see if he thought there was a table for 3 not showing on the computer. Low and behold there was and we were sat with only a 15 minute wait. We had the best waiter ever and the food was great.

I have to admit the stay we had in early November compeltely changed my opinion on the 'Ohana staff and the Poly staff as a whole as it was night and day compared to our 2013 stay.

All of that to say it is possible but don't expect it. I truly believe we were lucky because of the time of day (it was 8:30pm) and the really nice manager who saw there were empty tables that weren't slated to be filled so there must have been a late cancellation or something.

This is the best advice for all ADR issues, ranging from "want to eat at {{specific place}}" to "need to add Aunt Matilda to the ADR."

We tried walking up and were told they were completely booked. I wouldn't count on it...:( keep looking for an ADR tho! I somehow got one on NYE last year about two months out!

Edit: I misread. It is very common, however, to get reservations within the week. Twice this year I got a reservation within 3 days. Once was the day of.
