Ohana vs. Spirit of Aloha

Both are at the Poly. Neither are buffets, but served by a waiter/waitress family-style. The menus are different.

'Ohana has some entertainment that goes on - a lounge-type singer, a race around the restaurant for the kids.

The luau is a full blown dinner show with many performers on a stage. It's about a 1.5-2 hour dinner and show.

'Ohana is in the Grand Ceremonial House of the Poly. The luau is outside at a pavilion.

The luau is more expensive.

We have done both. We did Aloha once and said we would never do it again. However, Ohana is now a must do for every trip.

Blech to both for me!!! 'Ohana served us tough, dry meats and Spirit of Aloha was long, boring, and had very mediocre food - a definite waste of 2TS credits. If you're set on eating at the Poly Kona looks good.

Our family isn't so fond of the luau, but love Ohana's. The food at the Luau wasn't very good. But the fire guy was really cool. But, (not sure if they still do this) if you get there around dusk, the fire guy does a little fire thingy to "light the torches". So we do that now instead of the Luau.

We did the luau first trip and it was ok, but very happy we did it. Ohana's is a must every trip--the meal is fabulous and we usually do it toward the end of the trip so we can sit and talk about all the wonderful things we've seen and done. Don't forget to explore the entire Poly! there is a very interesting art gallery in the lower level. :hippie:

I liked the service better at the Luau, but the food is better at Ohana. I also don't think the Luau is worth the money - the food is mediocre and the show is just OK.

I feel like you have to do the luau is something you have to do at least once, but definetly not something needed every trip.

O'hana on the hand is a MUST for us every time! The food is better, and it is obviously cheaper!

I would agree the turkey and pork loin were dry which is why we stick with the steak which is usually better. It is the rest of the food we love at 'Ohana and always get a bit of a strange look from the server when we don't order much of the meats.

We fill up on wings, noodles and pork dumplings and top it all off by eating Bread Pudding until we explode.

I agree with those that posted and said that Spirit of Aloha was a waste of money or 2 TS! My brother tired to warn me, but I didn't listen and we had to find out for oursleves! NEVER again. The food was below mediocre, we were served extra dry ribs and chicken. It was almost inedible. The only good food was the fresh pineapple. As for the show, it was just so-so. The story line is tacky. The show only gets good after the second half when they start to do traditional dancing and have the fire dancer.
