I have a reservation for 'Ohana. After reading many many comments, I am debating canceling that ADR and getting one for Boma. I really want to try 'Ohana but I have heard, with the menu changes and a change in the chef, that it is not as good. I really want to try Boma and I could not fit it in this trip. I need suggestions. Keep 'Ohana or go to Boma. We are a family of 4. Myself, my husband, my 15 year old daughter, and my 11 year old son. Thanks.

We like Ohana, but we love Boma. It's one of our favorites and is a must do for us every trip. With that said, I would switch.

Excellent question!!

My first question to you is do you have any picky eaters? The reason I ask is – we traveled with my in-laws & crew last January. We ate at both Boma and Ohana. When we went to Boma, they were indifferent in the selection because they are very much a Pennsylvania Dutch – basic food family. I found that they didn’t try the African tastes or anything outside the normal. On their plates they had the carved meat, potatoes, pasta and desserts. So for Boma – it has a lot of African flare and a lot of different choices if you are willing to go outside the box. As for Ohana – this was perfect for their palette! The menu was excellent and even with the changes to the menu I don’t think you will be disappointed. It all depends on what kind of food that you like.

Also something to consider is the entertainment after. For Ohana (pending reservation time) you have the option to watch the Water Pageant Parade and Fireworks from the beachs. From Boma – you will have to take the bus to DTD or another park (unless you are staying at AKL).

My personal opinion is I LOVE both – but Ohana is much higher on my list then Boma 

mickeynut summed up my feeling perfectly! I like 'Ohana but I LOVE Boma! If I had to choose it'd be Boma all the way!

Personally, I think O'Hana is better. Better food, better atmosphere, overall better experience.

We are trying Boma for the first time this trip and can't wait based on all the recommendations...Ohana is good, but the main draw is the character meet and greet interaction and your kids appear to be old enough not to be into that...so I would switch if it were me.

Meh ... I've eaten myself into a food coma at both Ohana and Boma so I'd be good with either one. Personally, I like Boma a bit better ... in large part because nobody calls me Cousin there.

Boma all the way. We like Ohana and go every trip but Boma wins in a choice between the 2.

Also after you can go out on the walkway and listen to stories of Africa from the CMs and view the animals with the night vision goggles.

Characters are only at 'Ohana at breakfast, if that helps. I personally like both places, so if you haven't done either before, then I don't think you can go wrong with either (especially if you haven't done 'Ohana and don't really have anything to compare it to from before the changes to the menu). I would probably base the decision on where you will be that day. We just stayed at AKL last week and, although it is beautiful, it is close to absolutely nothing. If you want to go out there to explore, or if you're already at the AK park for the day, then it would be worth making the side trip. But if you're at MK or even Epcot for the day, I'd be tempted to stick with 'Ohana.

We really like both and ate at both this past May. If I had to choose though I'd go with Boma. The selection is good and I really enjoyed the beef strip and curried seafood stew. Boma certainly has more options but the wings and shrimp at 'Ohana are great. I'd also pick Boma right now because I feel like the construction detracts a bit from Polynesian. Animal Kingdom Lodge is AWESOME by the way.

Boma - There is something for everyone. The variety of soups and desserts alone is amazing.

You can also view the animals on the savannah (night vision goggles if it's after dark), and explore the AKL. It has my favorite gift shop of any resort.

Ohana was fine, but we didn't enjoy it and we won't do it again. It was just too much food, and we felt like real jerks for not eating more of it. Everything was ok, but nothing was really great. It was just a ton of so-so food.

No contest for my family. We would do Boma every trip, and I don't think we'll ever do Ohana again ... and that was with the old menu!

We weren't going for the characters. My kids aren't into them, so we can bypass character meals. We are going for dinner.

Well....I asked both of my children which one they would prefer. My daughter said "my 2 favorite foods (this week) are chicken wings and shrimp. I want 'Ohana". Okay, so that was one vote 'Ohana. I asked my son who said "I think Boma sounds good, but we ate there for breakfast the last time (we would be going for dinner this time) and I really really want 'Ohana". So, I guess we are going to 'Ohana. I'm okay with the decision. Now, I just have to plan another trip so I can go to Boma. :thumbsup2
