Ohana - Spicy?

I was planning on taking my teenage boys next summer. Ohana was one of the restaurants I was planning on because of how fun I read it is. However, I just looked at the menu, and now I'm not so sure. There doesn't seem to be much to choose from, and my boys can be picky eaters. All 3 of us don't like spicy food either, and some of the food on the menu looks spicy to me. Is this the case? Any other recommendations? So far I plan on doing 1900 Park Fare, Chef Mickey's, Sci-Fi Diner, Garden Grill, Whispering Cafe, T-Rex, and Be Our Guest.

We enjoyed it. You just get so much food, that by the time the hi-light of the meal starts coming out, we were already starting to get full. Make sure you eat a light lunch or an early lunch. Space out a good amount of time between lunch and dinner. Have a good appetite when you go. Due to having a good size lunch, we may have sabotaged our dinner. We plan on trying it again with a very light lunch beforehand.

Thank you so much for the info. Light lunch it is! I'm going to keep Ohana on my list. :)

Ohana is definitely not spicy! They offered to bring my DD off the menu items but she was fine with the offerings. We love Ohana!

I say totally not spicy. That's according to my taste. As far as other people - I have seen many complaints that the food is too sweet, but never one that it is too spicy.

Ohana's is not spicy, been there a couple of times.
Nothing at Disney is actually spicy.

Nothing at 'Ohana specifically is even remotely spicy - at all.

However, there are spicy foods at Disney World. I know the spice factor varies from person to person, but a couple of years ago my husband and I ate in China's quick service area at Epcot and the chicken I had was so spicy that my lips got really red and it took over an hour for me not to feel the heat factor anymore. They have removed that from the menu, a number of folks complained about it. Not too many things are that spicy though througout the world, but Ohana's is definitely safe.

I remember that chicken! I thought it was delicious, but still not very spicy. I can't imagine why people would complain. Some people can't tolerate any spice level above mayonnaise. That doesn't mean the spicy option shouldn't exist.

Yep, not spicy at all. Everything is too sweet for me. The salad dressing - sweet. The dipping sauces - sweet. The stuff the dumplings are sauced in - sweet. The wing sauce - sweet. I like sweet stuff for dessert (and the bread pudding is DELICIOUS!). But I don't like sweet stuff on meat or other savory foods. I think I would like it better if I could get soy sauce for everything.

I really wanted to take DH to 'Ohana on our trip 2 weeks ago, but I remembered all the sweet food and decided to skip it. The atmosphere is really fun though!

I agree. I do not really like high levels of spice (and have never had the chicken dish mentioned), but I think the very spicy options should still be there for those who want them, with appropriate warnings given on the menu.

We did not like the quality of food at O'Hana at all durung our spring break trip a couple weeks ago.

It was one of the only popular restaurants we hadnt tried for dinner and we like all the food on the set dinner menu. The food was not good at all its so crowded its like a production line although we were not rushed. The only thing that was tasty was the bread pudding dessert which you can get next door fir alot less than the price of this meal. Indeed the meal for four of us including one alcoholic drink was $230.

I wouldn't waste your money nor the time it takes trying to get a reservation here but as you've read others will disgree with me.

I can't tolerate ANY level of heat. Seriously, ANY. I can't even eat a lot of brands of barbecue potato chips. That said, I found nothing on the dinner menu spicy, including the shrimp, which are listed as spicy. Apparently they do put some kind of seasoning on shrimp peel, but not the meat, and there are dipping sauces. The 'Ohana dinner is my favorite on property.

It is certainly expensive but then so is everything at WDW. We have always enjoyed our 'Ohana meals and there is enough variety that everyone leaves happy and definitely stuffed. :)

Definitely agree. I have never been too crazy with spicy foods, but I personally don't mind a kick. However, I have learned that everyone's definition of spicy is different. I have gone to restaurants where dishes are advertised as a "bit" spicy and the food was carrying a punch. While in others, they say very spicy and I could barely feel it.

There should be options for everyone. That dish at Epcot was considered very spicy by the majority, but it should not have been taken off the menu just because of that.

So glad I searched and found this thread.. I am adding it on to our list of must do's for our trip after Thanksgiving.. I really like shrimp & Hubs doesn't, so to have a place serving both steak and shrimp is the best of both worlds I was just a little worried when I read "spicy" on the menu.. Glad to hear its not really on the meat but maybe just coating the shell. :) Thanks Michelle

This! Except for dessert, we found the food to be sweet in an unappetizing way.

I agree with others that said it can be too sweet. Even the bread is sweet :)
But, I'm a sucker for the bread pudding. It is definitely the best part of the meal for me (and the setting and ambiance). But, it's a Disney classic and a must-do, at least one time. I hope you enjoy it!
