There is sooooo much other food to eat. I wouldn't be able to eat more than a sample of either potatoes or noodles so it doesn't really matter to me.

We haven't been (yet), but I have to agree. Less noodles/potaotes = more shrimp!!! :thumbsup2

Personally I don't think the Potato switch was about "Authenticity" at all it was about accounting. We all know what the price of fuel is and how much it costs to transport product, and the last time I looked potatoes aren't a major crop of Florida, and with diesel being over $4.00 a gallon,
That being said Potatoes cost way more to transport then dry Udon ("undone as my daughter says") noodles. The Disney "Accountaneers are responsible for yet another cost saving suggestion. And that’s the truth of it IMHO!

I think the noodles add some authenticity to the meal, more then the potatoes did anyway. Even though they seem like a very Americanized noodle dish.

I honestly don't care now, Disney has made it clear they don't want Ohana to be a restaurant for peanut-allergy sufferers. By adding the noodles (which have peanuts last time I checked) they've gotten rid of the rest of the allergy-sufferers who still ate there (you could request no peanut sauce at your table but now they're even removing the menu options).

I used to like Disney restaurants as they seemed to aim away from dishes with peanuts but it seems like they're caring less and less now.

I'm sorry, but it's your opinion that they aren't tastier. I'm sure lots of people thought they were delicious.

And commonplace. You can't really get any more commonplace than cheesy potatoes. :confused3 They're almost exactly those Betty Crocker things that come in a box. Just my opinion.

And yours is that they are.

I'm sorry. I fail to see how your opinion is more valid than mine. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

I've read the reviews (on this board and others) and the common opinion seems to be that they lack flavor and have a bit too much oil. I haven't read ONE review from anyone who has been there that has raved about the noodles. Judging by the results of this poll and the posts on the boards, perhaps my opinion isn't the unpopular one.

Or vegetarians.

Took away two vegetarian dishes and only added back one.

Hi
I voted for the unauthentic, but delicious potatoes. I don't eat meat, but will now eat more of the shrimp. I loved the potatoes and really don't care if they fit the theme or not, just want something delicious to eat. Also, I don't think they taste anything like the Betty Crocker potatoes, at least not the ones I've made from the box. I hope the noodles are good, since we have an ADR for August.

.

:cheer2: what she said

I chose the potatoes. If something turns me off by description and sight (like that picture did) I just don't see any reason to choke down a bite. Too much other food out there to eat.

We choose the potatos. The noddles just don't look good. The pineapple in them sounds icky.

I don't think that every restaurant can develop every menu considering every allergy that might be out there or whether or not they offer enough vegetarian choices (as another poster complained about). This is especially true of places with set menus. I personally do not care whether they have peanuts in the noodles or not but why should Disney "move away" from dishes with peanuts in them when the majority of their guests do not have that allergy? I am sure there are enough peanut-free choices at other places to choose from.

As far as the one poster being a vegetarian and eating at a place that primarily offers meat as its main course, perhaps a better decision on a dining location would be in order?

That's assuming that they're choosing where their party is eating.

We're eating at Ohana on our next trip and it is in no way my decision. I want to cancel, I was out-voted, so we're going. I figure I still have the sirloin, the salad, and the bread pudding (for the time being). But it was in no way my decision to dine here and if I had my way, we'd be dining at a different restaurant.

I have never eaten in this rest. I would like to take my dd(6) so what type of food do they serve? Thanks!:flower3:

I'm confused. You're upset at Disney for taking vegetarian dishes (by the way, besides the potatoes, what did they take out ?) off the menu, but isn't the real problem that the party you're traveling with did not take your special needs into consideration when booking their reservations ? Why have higher expectations from a company who doesn't know you as a person, than from the people you're traveling with ?
Also, isn't sirloin meat ??

Sorry for those who are allergic to peanuts but they're not going to make every restaurant in WDW free of them. I'm allergic to shrimps and don't expect every restaurant to cater to my needs.

I voted noodles, by the way. I can make cheesy potatoes anywhere and the last time we ate them at 'Ohana they were cold and greasy. Blech.

'Ohana is mostly known for the skewers of meat (steak, turkey, and now shrimp) cooked over a huge fire in the restaurant.
Starters now include pineapple bread, sticky wings, salad with honey dressing, and pork dumplings.
Sides (with the meat) are noodles with pineapple and red pepper, and mixed vegetables.
Dessert is bread pudding with banana foster sauce.

Hope this helps :)

I never said I was the vegetarian (the other dish is the wontons, btw...they took vegetarian wontons and replaced them with pork-filled ones, thusly taking two vegetarian options and only replacing one of them).

I have no special needs. I don't like Ohana anymore. The rest of my party does. I'm not going to force them to cancel a meal they want because it's not something I'll enjoy anymore. That would be awfully selfish of me. It's not just my vacation. I was responding to a poster who said another poster should consider other options, and I was simply responding that not everyone has the liberty to change their ADR's.

And I surely hope your question about sirloin was rhetorical.

I'd have no problem with rice coming back, or a sweet potato dish. But the noodles are oddly reminiscent of a packet of asian-style Pastaroni that's sitting in my pantry. I could easily add some canned pineapple and a few strips of red pepper and have the same dish without even having to do any cooking. It comes down to replacing a dish that had been superior (served hot, not all that greasy) every time I frequented Ohana and replacing it with something I could make without even really doing any cooking. And isn't that the point of dining out, especially when on vacation? Trying new cuisine? Trying things that you maybe can't cook?

At the end of the day, this really isn't something that's going to affect the outcome of either of our upcoming trips. It's a decision that leaves me a bit perplexed and disappointed, but ultimately, won't even be a deciding factor in how amazing my trips will be.
