It is with a heavy heart that I must post this review. :guilty: 'Ohana's has always been a family favorite and we have even been known to eat there 2-3 times in one trip....that being said, this visit was not the best.

We had ADRs for 6:20 on May 26. We arrived at 5:45 and were seated immediately. The fried wonton and dips came out and they were pretty good - nothing special - but ok. Then came the sticky chicken wings, salad, vegetables and cheese potatoes. The chicken wings were ok according to my hubby and son but I don't like chicken wings, the vegetables consisted of mainly snow peas and carrots and the cheese potatoes were a greasy mess.

The sweet and sour shrimp were pretty good but after having to wipe the mess from my hands for the umpteenth time I just gave up. I know peel and eat shrimp are indeed messy but these are just crazy messy and lack the incredible flavor that the grilled prawns had.

Now for the really horrible part.....the meats. We requested our steaks rare as we have always done. They did come out rare but tasted "charred" on the outside and were riddled with gristle. The turkey was dried out and the pork was tasteless. The sausage was ok - but we are not big sausage fans.

Now the new desssert came out. We really loved this.....the only thing we really did love. It was a moist bread pudding with a heavenly sauce and ice cream. Very good but I won't be going back to just eat the pudding....lol.

I am well aware that they may have just had an "off" night and that others have loved the changes. Oh well, more room for everyone else b/c I won't be back....there are too many other great restaurants.

While I miss the fried rice, the bread, the shrimp wonton were my husband's favorites!!!, and especially the pineapple with warm caramel the atmosphere is still wonderful. My hope is that by letting cast members know what we like and don't like, they might make changes back to the things we love!
We were there the week of the 26th and again last night. We were lucky in that our meats were wonderful! Don't give up!!! Just keep hoping they bring back some of the favs! :)

Yikes! We were there in March and our food was great. We have eaten there with both menus and I loved it both times. Give it another chance. I think you went on an off night.
Tara

Must have been an off night indeed! We have tried both the old and the new menu and I must say we loved them both. The bread pudding is heavenly. And I make a meal fromwhat they bring at our table, forget the meats!

Cannot wait to go again in September, it is a must do every time we go to WDW.

Give it another chance.

I have to say I am kinda dreading our September ADR here. I am going to try to be as open minded as possible, but I know I am going to not like some of the changes. I hate scalloped potatoes, so that is a no go. I liked the dumplings, and fried won ton strips just aren't the same, no matter how nice the sauce. And while I don't mind peel & eat shrimp, I don't want to try to do that with sauce all over it. I mean that is just a stupid idea, no matter how nice the sauce is. But I'll keep quiet and maybe DH will still like it. I hope, becuase it's one of his absolute favorites.

I think I would have been Ok with the meal if the meats were good b/c that is my favorite part. Maybe they had a new cook b/c it is very rare for ALL of the meats to be "not so good". :confused3

I COMPLETELY agree with all of this (we ate there a few weeks ago) -- yucky messy shrimp (!) -- except we were very happy with the meats. The steak was yummy, so I filled up on that, while DH ate the steak, turkey and sausage. And we liked the dessert. We like our steak medium to medium well, so perhaps they had an easier time with that.

In all reality for those of you who are not happy with the changes to the menu, you really need to write to Disney Guest Relations and let them know. Posting your displeasure with the menu here does no one any good. :confused3

And before anyone asks if I sent my own personal e-mail stating my unhappiness with the menu, the answer is yes. I have and I did receive a "standard" response, but at least they're aware of at least one person who is not happy with the changes. :goodvibes

My family (4 of us) spent a week at the Poly last month. We had 1 dinner at Ohana, and it was the worst meal of the week. The shrimp were overcooked, and sitting in way too much liquid. The potatoes were greasy and bland. There was some sort of lousy vegetable. The steak was tough and not very tasty, the turkey was overcooked, and the pork was fatty. The sausage was just ok, but had no taste. Plus, they brought out things in the wrong order (potatoes before salad, then salad, then meat). Restaurant wasn't crowded, so no excuse there. However, the salad was good.

By the way, we found the rest of the food at Disney to be very good. I had 2 dinners at Kona, 2 breakfasts at Kona, plus mutliple meals at Captain Cooks. We also had 2 dinners at GF, 1 lunch at GF, plus lunches at MK and Epcot.

Ohana was our first meal, and glad we got the bad one out of the way. I don't think I would go back for dinner-but I might go back for breakfast.

We went there in February on Valentine's Day. It was our first time so we didn't have anything to compare to. However, I wasn't greatly impressed by the place. It was GOOD, just not great. It felt pretty darn rushed, they kept bringing stuff out one right after the other. And the meats were VERY overcooked. And who wants to eat sticky peel n eat shrimp? Would it be too much to just peel the darn shrimp before cooking it? i would have eaten a LOT of that, but it was too much of a pain and took too much time considering how fast they were bringing out the food! :) We did enjoy the ambience and our DD3 enjoyed the games and songs. And we went to the back on their little beach and got to watch the fireworks at MK. It was a GREAT evening overall.

We did take the time to let Disney know that we miss the old, and what we appreciate of the new. All things change...hopefully Yachtsman Steakhouse won't do anything to their filets though for a very long time!!!! :thumbsup2

You had the same experience we did. I think the off nights are the ones that are good. This place has more bad then good anymore. We too used to eat here at least twice each trip, up to 5 times a year. The only thing we do like now is the bread pudding! We are actually going back this trip for that bread pudding! I figure if we are still hungry after leaving there then there is always Kona's. LOL!

:sad2: I love the Pineapple and caramel. I haven't eaten here since 2003, sound kind of dissapointing to me. I absolutely loved it every time we ate here. What are the menu changes? Thanks

I'm glad I saw this thread--otherwise I would've thought I was nuts for not liking Ohana. We ate there last night & all I can say is yuck.

The way it was all served was a bit odd---we happen to like family style dinners instead of buffets, however the timing was really off in how they brought the "courses".

The kid activities were cute but they took so long, my kids barely got a chance to eat before the rest of our party was ready to leave! Not that it mattered much since the only thing my kids really enjoyed was the dessert. :rotfl: That was the only real item I heard compliments about the entire meal from everyone. (I didn't eat it myself because it wasn't my cup of tea)

The pork was good. The steak was ok but DH doesn't eat anything but well-done meat---he requested a piece be cooked a bit longer but it never arrived. The turkey was dry & a bit odd, and none of us were too excited about the sausage.

Overall, this was probably the worst meal I've had on Disney property & was the first time I ever left a restaurant there feeling ill. :(

It was so good the first time we went 2 years ago and i am not sure what happened. The service was very slow, our waitress was really "out there". She took forerver to get us our drinks and then to bring out the food. We were done with the appetizers and salad for about 10 minutes before i finally asked if we could get some meat. We were brought the pork, then the chicken. We waited about 15 minutes then had to ask for the steak. It wasn't event hat great either. The side dishes were only ok. We were really dissappointed in the actual meal. I will also add that it was freezing in there. You should not need a sweater in order to eat your meal. What was actually nice was that we had a perfect view of the castle and at 9 when WISHES started they played the soundtrack from WISHES right in the restaurant. It was really nice to eat our dessert while watching the fireworks. Overall i was so dissappointed with Ohana. Maybe we will go again, i don't know. I think that they should bring back the bread though!

Wow! I am suprised by how many unhappy people there are! I have been 4 times, both on old and new menu, and never had a bad night. I can understand how some people may feel they are rushed as the waitors continually bring food out, but that is how they are supposed to do it. I hope each of you who plan on not going back will give it another chance.....its truley a great place! Also, I would not cancel my reservations at Ohana because of a bad review. Everyone has their opinions of how their meal was, and you should try it for yourself to see if you like it first.
