Long time lurker, decided to take the plunge and finally add a little something to the community. Im 27 and live near Ft. Lauderdale, and visit with my girlfriend (23) about 5 times a year on the Seasonal Pass. We stay on property as often as possible, and enjoy the awesome restaurants in the World as much as (ok, probably more than) the parks.
We loved the old menu at O'hana so much that we hadn't missed dining there in 2 years. As such, we were interested to try the new stuff, but had some reservations about missing items and their replacements (mostly from the GF, shes a lot more picky than I am).
The first surprise we had was that the rotating lazy susan of appetizers was gone, replaced with individual plates. We definitely liked the old wontons better than the new tortilla style wonton chips, but the new ones weren't bad dipped in the peanut sauce. Which brings me to the sauces. We were really disappointed that they took away the ginger soy dipping sauce, absolutely everything tasted good dipped in that stuff. So that was a buzzkill...luckily our buzz from pre-dinner martinis at mizner's in the floridian outweighed the kill from the missing sauce
I much preferred the new cheesy potatoes to the old rice, the GF liked the rice a little more but still enjoyed the potatoes. The new shrimp were pretty good, not as good as the grilled, but still tasty. And the salad and wings were both the same, AWESOME. love that dressing and the wing sauce is outstanding. I enjoyed the new BBQ glaze that came on the pork skewers, as did my GF. Steak and turkey were still excellent. My GF wouldnt touch any kind of sausage with a ten foot pole, but I'm usually all about it. This stuff was pretty bland though, tasted more like a hot dog than anything else. Would pass on it next time and gorge on the other meats. The new bread pudding with ice cream and bananas foster sauce dessert, in both our opinions, was about 100 times better than the old pineapple and caramel deal. I already grabbed the recipe from here and plan on making it on Christmas. Top notch stuff there.
Well there you have it. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, and its nice to join the community!
