Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!!

Kermit Cabanas.

kermit the frog is driving a car and looking out the window .

The old birdcage sat on a big platform, which took up the exact same amount of space as the current bar. When they ripped up the flooring to put in the new bar, you could see the outline of the previous platform. They used the same footprint for both.

If you look at the picture posted by @mrsap , you can see how large the platfrom was, still allowing for the tree and gingerbread house.

I think you'll be able to sit on a tree branch to enjoy your drink at that bar :)

Thinking about the cabanas.... can you reserve the cabana and have other people not staying at GF use it?

Like can I book it, and then have my best friend who is staying at the Poly use it as long as the total number of people is correct for the cabana?

Maybe that's what some of the overcrowding is from...

Yes, that would be a small problem. lol I mean, Disney has Imagineers… let’s imagine we move one of the chandeliers out of the way for a couple months!! How hard could it be?! lol

But seriously, I went back to last year’s picture of the tree, and honestly, it’s not as wide as I pictured it. Even if they slightly position it off center and put it towards the elevator, if need be, I’d think it would be fine. I retract my original rambling thoughts posted above.

What we really need is a crew of Dis-ers to sit (or stand) at the bar with our bubbly and "cheers" bomb people's Xmas tree photos. Who's in?

Keep in mind they have picked up some extra space on the side...

I'm wondering if the Gingerbread House sticks around but is put off to the side and looks more like the one on the Disney Wish and less like the huge thing they built at WDW... They can still sell the items.

I applaud additional furniture, and hope that the Tea Room can continue in some sort of way to offload excess people.

Personally, having the birdcage be non-functional irritated me - especially when you could go to the Hyatt and see a real bird... I think the bar is a better use of the space, have a cocktail, listen to the piano. Glad they added extra seating. Also, really glad the bar won't have any TVs. Very cool!

The renovations do signal the death of the orchestra to me.... Personally, I say take the old kids club space and put another bar in there with a small jazz combo and a singer - say a pianist, drums, and bass. I'd be in there every night!

GF actually moved the Gingerbread House in 2018 by centering it with the Tea Room. It was previously on the side of the lobby near the birdcage and Sandy Cove:

I assume it would also fit by Curiouser Clothiers and the birdcage elevator if the lobby needs more space on the bar side.

The real question to me is will the drinks be up to par at the bar....

The grand floridian and Riviera are my exception to the rule - don't ever buy mixed drinks/cocktails from Disney....

They announced that they would still have Gingerbread offerings for sale this year even without the Gingerbread house. The Gingerbread house will be back next year.
