I just ran across this in the menu section of this site.....Seems pretty odd to me!

What are your thoughts? I was actually going to book an ADR there for a special dinner with my parents! After this review, I don't think I will. Or, is something not quite right????:scared:

COPIED FROM MENU DESCRIPTION PAGE......"Ohana is the wildly popular restaurant on the second floor of Disney's Polynesian Resort that does not deserve the reputation it has. The large room overlooks the Seven Seas Lagoon, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and a pool. What was once a view of the Magic Kingdom is now mostly blocked by the large volcano structure poolside. Appetizers are served family style and entrees are served from large skewers. The food quality varies from mediocre to poor. There is relentless Hawaiian 'lounge act' type entertainment that includes singing, ukulele playing, limbo contests and races where children push coconuts around the restaurant, all on hardwood floors. The noise level is extremely loud and the ambience is best described as chaotic. 'Ohana has a large and loyal following who obviously see something we don't."

I thought it was pretty good. But if you are looking for "quiet", try Kona.

It sounds like the place as I remember it! Makes me remember why I didn't make reservations for my up coming 10 day stay :rotfl:

'Ohana is pretty loud. But IMO so is Kona - probably because you can hear most of the noise coming from 'Ohana!!

Well loud yes and geared more to families with young children. I thought the food was good. The little act was coorney but the kids had a ball. We are going back this year. For an adult dinner I would suggest Kona also. Same type of food just minus all the kiddos running around having fun.

We love Ohana but Narcoosies sounds more like what you are looking for.

If you want quiet at 'Ohana, go late. The entertainment wraps up around 9, and most of the people leave.

Our first trip there, we were seated over to the side behind the bar and cook area, so most of the entertainment was occurring in the other room. However, there was a speaker right over our table, and it was OMG loud! The restaurant was packed, the food slow, and a little dry. By the end of the meal, we were all ready to run for the hills as the singer's voice was grating on our last nerve.

Our second trip we arrived late, the entertainment wrapped up, the place cleared out, and we practically had the place to ourselves for Wishes. The food was much better as it was served to us immediately from the grill. We will definitely return.

Based on our dining experience, that description sounds about right. It's funny it's on the menu page.

That's funny. We ate there for the first time last December and I don't remember it being particularly loud. We did have a 5:10 reservation, so place was pretty empty for a while. The food was very good and liked watching the kids push their coconuts around the room. I would definitely eat there again.

one of my favorite places to eat. We eat there every trip, its great, but yes loud. But we enjoyed watching everyone else interact. We had a great view of the fireworks at MK last April. Would highly recommend.

'Ohana is probably my family's favorite restaurant. I don't think the entertainment is that intrusive. It's fun for kids, but we've been there without kids and it didn't bother us. The food is excellent. The only down side is that you usually end up waiting for a table even with an ADR, and your server can make or break your experience. Bad service really ruins the meal here.

'Ohana is always busy, so that many people can't all be wrong!

That description pretty much sums up how we feel about 'Ohana too. I think it's very overrated on this DIS. We thought the atmosphere was chaotic, & the food was mediocre at best. Then again, I think Le Cellier & Boma are overrated on the DIS. Naturally, that's JMO for what it's worth. :rolleyes1

we love Ohana's, even the loudness!! The skewers are meat are very delicious and always enjoy our meal at this restaurant. Eating there before the xmas party on 12/2. What a great way to start the evening.

It was loud but we enjoyed it and the food wasn't the best we had during our trip but it was certainly towards the top of the list. For me it was really nice because the kids had a really great time. The entertainment is corny but what we saw really wasn't meant to be "entertainment" but rather an activity for the kids (hula dancing, coconut roll, etc...). If you enjoy watching kids it is fun...as a parent it was nice because the kids got to go do thier thing and really loved it. We also go lucky and ended up being there during the fireworks which was one of the most magical moments of the trip. Seeing the kids sitting next to the window watching the fireworks, the whole resturant grew silent and you could the music that is played duirng the show at MK is also played inside. It was a really magical moment for us.

Having said that - It has not made our ADR list again since that trip but it may well in the future. Other than the MUST DOs like Le Cellier, we try to try different things each time.

Ohana was one of the best meals we had last May... and this is from a 25 year old and a 54 year old!! Yes, it could get loud, but I could hear the wait staff and my mother, so it couldn't have been as loud as that description makes it sound. Heck, Crystal Palace was just as loud if not more so, same with Le Cellier.

The food was great and the entertainment was fun.

Just think of it as Whispering Canyon, polynesian style. That said, we ate there for the first time last year, and loved the food and setting. We wondered what had taken us so long to try it. We'll be back.

I've got ADR at Ohana for my upcoming trip in Dec. 2007. My husband and I will be alone...we have no children. We are in our 30's. I've been reading some terrible reviews of Ohana and am starting to feel like I need to change my reservation! We would like to be somewhat convenient to the MK when we eat dinner since we are going to Mickey's Christmas Party that night.
Which should I choose??
Ohana
Tony's Town Sq.
Raglan Rd. (which I know is Downtown Disney but that's ok)
Concourse Steakhouse
Chef Mickey's
or Kona???
Please help anyone!!!!
Thanks so much!!:scared:

I would go to the Grand Floridian Cafe at the Grand Floridian. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere (beautiful at Christmas), wonderful service and reasonably priced. Right on the monorail.

For a special dinner with your parents, I'd go to Artist Point.

O'hana's is wonderful for families with kids, but for a nice intimate dinner....that it's not.

We have eaten at 1900 Park Fare in the GF resort. Is the GF cafe similiar to this?
Thanks for your advice!!
