I looked at the menu on Deb's site and I see starters and skewers. Are there any side dishes? Also....what about children's choices? Anything for kids other than the skewers?

Thanks..

Jess

I have heard that children can order from the kid's menu for Kona Cafe. The starters, for us, were the side dishes because it was not long after they were brought to the table that the meat was brought. (Maybe 3 mins). We had the salad, rice, veggies, wings and wontons. They bring these to your table and they sit on a turn table type thing along with the dipping sauces.

Our starters were more like sides as well...we probably only had the "starters" for 5-7 minutes- enough time for everyone to get some on their plate and have a bite or two, and then the meat started coming. My husband thought it was too rushed, but with two little kids, I didn't care----bring on the food! While the food all came quickly, I never felt like we were being shoved out the door. Our kids ( 5 and 20 months) poo-pooed most of the food, so we ordered some hot dogs and fries and they were out in about 5 minutes. They also could have had chicken strips and whatever else is on the Kona Cafe kids menu. Probably grilled cheese or mac and cheese too.

For the kids...Did you have to pay the $9.99 PLUS the children's menu items? Or was the hot dog/chicken fingers included in the meal price?

Thanks...
Jess

Last trip, DS3 was sick the night we went there and got sicker as the evening went on. The only thing that interested him in the least was the broccoli in the vegetables. The server noticed this and had the chef prepare him a serving of steamed broccoli. It was a nice touch.

My DS8 is very picky and very selective as to what he will eat. Ohanas turned out to be one of his favorites. He really liked the meat. When he was little, we were able to get macaroni & cheese for him -- at no charge.

First they bring out this lazy Susan with Wings, rice, vegetables, fried wontons and salad with the best dressing I've ever had. They will bring you more of anything, just ask.

Then they bring out the skewers of various meats; shrimp, steak, pork and turkey. You can have as much or little of each one and they will bring you more. One time I only had the shrimp. :)

I have more 'Ohana pix HERE.

Laura,

You are making me hungry!! I can't wait until October. Wonderful pictures.

I don't think we were charged extra for the hot dogs, but since I didn't pay the tab, I'm not sure.

If your child orders from the children's menu (and does not eat the regular meal), you will only be charged the price on the children's menu, which is far less than $10. A good server will "work with you" on this if your child is uncertain about eating the regular meal.

Thnaks for the wonderful pictures!

***********, thanks for the pictures!!!

I called yesterday to make sure all my Ps's were in order for my July trip and the CM said I had all his favorite restaurnant except Ohana's. Since the 1st night we will be arriving from HRH, I didn't make a PS cuz I wasn't sure how early we'd move over to Disney. Well now I booked Ohana for 1st night and I'm going make sure we make it!!!!!

OH MAN,

After looking at those pictures, I've got to try Ohana's. I have to rework my PS plans for October.

Thanks for those fantastic photos.
We're doing the countdown to Disney......checking in on July 11 at the Poly.

Ya-Hoooo !!!!

Thanks for your input on this one - I really fancied 'Ohanas and knew that kids could order from the regular kids menu from Kona Cafe - but I thought that it was a bit of a rip off as Kona Cafe kids meals are $4.99 and the kids price at 'Ohana is $9.99. I know that my DD would not try the 'Ohana meal so now we might go for it - booked all my ps's now (10 in all) but I might try to squeeze another in!

You are checking in the same day as ourselves - different resort though - may see you around.
