We have never been to either and I'm having a hard time choosing after seeing the photos on the food porn thread. We can only choose one for dinner-blame my overpacked itinerary . My original thoughts were Ohana because it seems like something we should have done on our other trips and it looks like it would be fun for the family. But the Kona Cafe menu looks way better! Please help me choose between the two. I make my ADRs on Monday.

I would go for Kona if you think you would like the food better. I have heard mixed reviews on the atmosphere at Ohana's. If you are expecting alot of fun and don't get it you may be dissapointed so I would choose which ever one you would find most appealing based on your food preferences.

I'm feeling your conflicts here, and just for the record i picked Ohana, even tho ive never been, based on the fact in my family we all like meat, scalloped potatoes, bread pudding and shrimp/wings...so i figure we'll like this just fine, and the atmosphere will be fun for my son.

On that note..i really wanted to eat at Kona (i have to see the look on my sons face when he gets that cotton candy ice cream cone!). I ended up dumping the brown derby and changed it to 50's prime time so we could do Kona one night. I REALLY wanted to do kona lol.

We prefer O'Hanna! Love the salad, wings and shrimp!

We loved 'OHana in October and April. We found the food good to excellent, the atmosphere fun, the view across the Lagoon gorgeous, just a fun evening. We ate at Kona in April and enjoyed it, but if I could do only one, I would choose 'OHana.

My family (4 of us) spent a week at the Poly last month. We had 1 dinner at Ohana, and it was the worst meal of the week. The shrimp were overcooked, and sitting in way too much liquid. The potatoes were greasy and bland. There was some sort of lousy vegetable. The steak was tough and not very tasty, the turkey was overcooked, and the pork was fatty. The sausage was just ok, but had no taste. Plus, they brought out things in the wrong order (potatoes before salad, then salad, then meat). Restaurant wasn't crowded, so no excuse there. However, the salad was good.

By the way, we found the rest of the food at Disney to be very good. I had 2 dinners at Kona, 2 breakfasts at Kona, plus mutliple meals at Captain Cooks. We also had 2 dinners at GF, 1 lunch at GF, plus lunches at MK and Epcot.

Ohana was our first meal, and glad we got the bad one out of the way. I don't think I would go back for dinner-but I might go back for breakfast.

I think both are very good. If you are looking for an experience try Ohana with the castle view and great theming. We go every time we visit. If the food is most important try Kona. We have had excellent and interesting meals there. Maybe you could fit Kona in for breakfast and try the famous Tonga Toast.

I prefer 'Ohana for dinner and Kona Cafe for breakfast.

You have to read the mixed reviews of a restaurant with a grain of salt. Many of the bad reviews of 'Ohana state something like, "We hated the change because we liked the old menu better." Well, if the only thing that person found fault with was the menu change, I would not call that a mixed review, I'd call it a menu complaint.

Many folks also post something like "The meats were totally dry!" or "The meats were overcooked!" Again, this is entirely a matter of perception - the meats are grilled, which does tend to dry up the juices, so cutting into a piece does not cause liquid to flow out, causing some folks to complain. And the word "overcooked" means something different to everybody; all of the meats I have ever had at 'Ohana have been well-done, which to some folks means "overcooked", and they all have charing on the outside from the grill, which to some folks means "burned", but I have never seen a piece of meat at 'Ohana that I would clasify as overcooked.

Sometimes the steaks don't fall apart just from looking at them, which to some folks means "tough". But I have never had a truly tough piece of steak at 'Ohana; sure, it's not as tender as filet mignon or prime rib, but it's got to hold together on the grill or it would be a mess.

Many have complained of "being rushed" or "feeling like we were being forced to leave" at 'Ohana. But this usually comes from the fact that many courses of the meal come to you in rapid succession. This is not a means to speed up your meal or force you to get out quicker, it is because these courses are meant to be enjoyed together. Tables at 'Ohana can often fill up with plates of food, which can be awkward, but that is simply because the various dishes are supposed to be brought out together. Take your time and enjoy them.

In short, never pay attention to a review that simply says, "It was awful!" or "It was great!" Instead, pay attention to the reviews that give specific information on WHAT was awful, or WHAT was great, so that you can make up your own mind, and remember that everybody has their own personal standards of "tough", "overcooked", and "dry" when it comes to steak, "spicy" when it comes to shrimp, "loud" when it comes to restaurant atmosphere, and "being rushed".

We've never tried Kona but if your party includes little ones they will probably enjoy 'Ohana more. We were there last year and the young ones we saw really enjoyed the coconut races and hula hoop contest. I found myself wishing we had done this when my kids were little. You can get great food at home, but 'Ohana offers that little bit of extra magic for the younger set.

We loved our meal at the Kona Cafe last Aug.

This year we are going to try Ohana - hope we wont be disapointed
;)

Vote for KONA - Never been there, but based on reviews we can't wait to try it! Been to O'hana twice - first time we really enjoyed it. The skewered jumbo shrimp were to die for. The last time was just OK. Most of the meats were very dry and bland. If you are really into "all-you-can-eat" type meals then O'hana is the place to go!!

We love them both. Depends what you are in the mood for. Kona is a calmer atmosphere but Ohana is a lot of fun with all the games and music and if you have big eaters since it is all you can eat.

I'm glad you asked this question. :thumbsup2 I was getting ready to post the same poll. Sounds like a hard choice! I might book Kona for breakfast and O'hana for dinner on a different day? Too many choices!! ;)

Kona for sure. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy 'Ohana, but I prefer the atmosphere and service of Kona. Also the food is better - try the Beef Teriyaki or Prime Rib.

I also picked Ohana, we just LOVE it there! We have never eaten at Konas, though I have only heard great things about it. We are planning on eating at both on our up~coming trip!
