We're staying at the Poly for the first time and I'm wondering if we should eat at 'Ohana or Kona Cafe on our first night. I've seen the menus and I think we would love the food at either restaurant. It will be myself, DH, DD8 and DD11.

Thanks!

Since those are 2 of my favorite restaurants thats a tough choice. Honestly I dont think you can go wrong at either place and it mainly depends on what you prefer.
Kona can be a little cheaper and obviously you get to order whatever you want. Ohana is a little more money, but its all you can eat and you get a full meal/variety(salad, beans, wings, rice, 4 meats, etc... Ohana also has entertainment for the kids, coconut races and hula hoops contests.
Now that I talk it out, I think I would give a slight edge to Ohana, but like I said, we love both! :D

How about both???

:hyper: I'm probably not much help there huh?
But we are going to be dining at both of them during our upcoming trip.

I can tell you this. If your big dessert eaters, than choose the Kona Cafe. They have the most fabulous desserts!

On the other hand, the pineapple and warm caramel dipping sauce that comes with the 'Ohanas buffet is great to.

Seriously, if I ere you, I would take a look at both menus and decide based on what your family likes the best. Both restaurants have great atmospheres, so you can't go wrong there.

Good luck!
Chris

Hard choice. I agree with the other poster. You can't go wrong at either.
However, with kids I would go with Ohana, due to the coconut races. And Ohana is much harder to get in with hardly any wait.
Kona is almost always a walk up.
Ohana is all you care to eat and probably less costly.
If you are lucky you can get a much better view at Ohanas too. Well -- really - Kona does not have much of a view of anything. ;)

These two are my favorites so what I do is lunch at Kona and dinner at Ohana. You definitely can't go wrong with these 2.

I like the atmosphere better at Ohana, but I like the food much better at Kona. Kona is my 5 yr. old DD's favorite restaurant because she loves the ice-cream cone dessert that has cotton candy and m&m's all around it. For her, that dessert is almost as enjoyable as going to one of the parks.

Ohana does have a fun atmosphere - but I find the food ok. It's great for a big group - as it is a flat price per person.

We like the food much better at Kona Cafe. Sticky wings are wonderful - and the desserts are to die for.

We did O'hana our 1st night and it was an absolute delight!!

Me, DH, DD12, DD10, and DD3 everyone loved it!!!

We had lunch at Kona a couple days later.

It was very good too.

I definently would say O'hana's for a 1st night experience.

Ask for a table by the window when you check in, so that you get a good view of the fireworks!!:bounce:

Ohana first night dinner, Kona first morning breakfast?:earsboy:

Haven't eaten at Kona but we love O'Hana! The view is awesome and the food is good. We are going without our child this time and still eating at O'Hana!

We are doing Ohana for the first time on September 2nd! I am soo excited as I have heard this is a really fun dining experience!! I would say go to Ohana if your in the mood for the disney banter and entertainment and do Kona Cafe is you want a more relaxing meal. :earsgirl:

Besides all the wonderful things everyone else has said, if you time it right, try to get a window seat. When Wishes starts, they dim the lights and pipe in the music. No better way to start your Disney vacation. This is a first day tradition for us. Also request to be seated in the main room, this is the room with the games for the kids and the entertainment.

Just like everyone else, we like both places. I think you asked for which one on the first night. With that question I would suggest Ohana's. If you just arrived you will be ready to dive into the Disney spirit and atmosphere. All the games and such will be a welcome kick-off to your trip. Since you are staying at Poly you can easily save Kona's until a night went you would like a quiet relaxing meal - which you will have there.

I would vote for O'Hana's. Food & service are very good.

Dined at Kona's twice 2 years ago (breakfast & dinner) and was pretty disappointed in both meals.
