How do you do dinner at Ohana on a diet or do you just not worry about it and eat as normal. "Sigh," Ohana is my favorite.

I totally agree, you're on vacation. Give yourself a reward and have fun. :grouphug: If you feel a little guilty, just "sample" but don't eat everything. Have a few bites of the naughty stuff, but maybe don't finish it. But you're only there for a little while. You don't want to beat yourself up your whole trip !! :goodvibes

Well, if it is the Atkins diet, you are home free!! That restaurant is incredibly meat-centric! OOh... except for the banana dessert...that will be tough!

Nope, it's not the Atkins diet. Just the, Try Not To Eat So Much Food diet. I may just have to control myself and do a little sampling. Oh boy! Does anybody have any extra will power I can use. I normally walk out of Ohana needing a wheel barrell to be pushed in.

fill up on the salad and drink lots of water. you will be full before you know it and not able to eat as much. the salad there is so good with that dressing so i wouldn't have any trouble eating alot of it.

I ate like a complete hog during 9 days at Disney and I broke even -- did not lose or gain a pound -- due to all the walking in/between the parks. Enjoy! And save room for the dessert!

I thought this too as I have Gestational Diabetes and went there over Thanksgiving. I learned from Chef TJ that all the meat is brushed with honey and is NOT quite Atkins friendly! The salad also has a dressing that is rather high in carbs.

the dressing is a honey lime recipe. but maybe you could get it without and sub something else.

i agree that if you don't way-way-way over do it with all the walking you will be doing you should be ok.

Best thing for a diet is not to go to O'hanna, they just keep on bring and bringing the food. We were just there the last week in October and probably ate twice as much or more at O'hanna then any other restaurant, but loved it. We walked at least 60 miles for the week and I still gained 5 pounds.

I really wouldn't worry about it. Diets are bad news anyway (especially Atkins, I cannot believe people cut out the GOOD carbs like whole grains), people should live a constant healthy lifestyle with splurges as the exception, not a restrictive diet. Just control the portions and enjoy the food and eat healthier the rest of the day.

1. you are on vacation - give yourself a break!
2. Walk more :) When I'm at the park, I walk SO much (and swim!) that I never gain weight when I'm there.
3. BEFORE your vacation - For at least 2 weeks before, eat less and exercise more - you'll be slightly smaller and can afford the extra calories :)
4. Be smart when you are eating anywhere at WDW - don't eat all the desserts, stop eating when you are full, don't eat something on your plate if you don't like it, dip your fork in the sauce rather than slathering sauces on your food.
5. Follow some of these tricks:
- Eat one food at a time rather than sampling and going back around your 'plate'. Your taste buds get bored and you'll eat less (yes, this is proven!). So eat your meat, then eat your veggies, then eat your carb.
- Ask for items specially made like don't butter your bun, wheat bun/bread rather than white, steamed veggies only, salad dressing on the side, etc.
- Drink a lot of water before your meals. It fills your stomach up.
- If you want bread, take one piece and no more. Can't handle it? Ask that they don't bring bread or I like to go wash my hands, walk around the restaurant, or do something else so I'm not eating.
- Once you start feeling full or you are finished, put your napkin on your plate or a dirty kleenex - you won't be tempted to eat anymore :)
- Don't ever spend your calories on non-alcoholic drinks!! Get water or diet soda or 'light' lemonade or tea or coffee (no sugar.)
- Choose the lighter alcoholic drinks. Yes, the Pina Colova is yummy but it is a creamy higher-calorie drink. Choose the x fusion lemonade - it is made with light lemondade - ONLY 5 calories! - well, the liquor has calories :)

At first when i ate i thought i didnt do bad because i ate lots of protein between the turkey, beef, & shrimp, also the broccoli and some lomein but then came the bread pudding and it all went out the window real fast.

I really wasnt watching myself when i ate at Ohana since it was such a special dinner so i wasnt too worried.

I guess it can be done if you stick with the salad, lean proteins & veges (no bread or bread pudding)

'Ohana is the one restaurant I don't mind splurging at!:goodvibes

But what I would do if I was trying to make the meal as healthy as possible:

1. Get a diet soda, water or light lemonade to drink
2. Skip the pre-dinner bread
3. Fill up on the salad and broccoli
4. Go for the shrimp and turkey skewers
5. Have a little taste of the bread pudding or ask if there is an alternate dessert option like fresh fruit

i'll be eating as much as i possibly can! i'm dieting now and it's no fun, starving at the moment, but when i get to wdw i'll be stuffed!!!

How often do you go to wdw? Not enough to ruin a diet! Maybe it would give you more umphf when you get back to diet knowing you gotta burn off some extra calories.

I dont think Ohana's is a bad choice, lots of lean meats and shrimp, salad, those glorious sticky wings, mmmm, cant wait!

Good luck in what you decide, but my vote is to enjoy yourself!popcorn::
