OHANA---ever again?

I think the problem lately with 'Ohana is that Disney continues to offer Free Dining, so people that book FD are suddenly scooping up ADRs for restaurants that they may otherwise avoid because of price (we pay OOP, dislike the DDP). People are greedy, they feel that they have to "stick it to Disney" as much as possible, causing restaurants that would otherwise be considered mediocre (like Le Cellier, I'm sorry Peter Luger oir Ruth's Chris it aint) to book up constantly. Don't get me wrong, 'Ohana is good, we love it, but truthfully, if it was outside DIsney property I'd think twice about dropping over $100 for our family of four to dine there.

I am not sure people are GREEDY for wanted to eat at Ohana's on the free dining. Everyone gets that chance to eat there.:confused3

We have never eaten there yet. We have always eaten at Kona's. But for our upcoming trip in April if we can get a ressie, we might have to try this place since everyone does rave about it.

Maybe greedy was a poor choice of words, it's just, going twice a year I tend to listen a bit at restaurants and get a little steamed when I hear people saying "well, we don't really want to eat here but since it costs so much we want to make sure we get it for free" or "i'd rather eat so and so but this maximizes our TS credits". Now it's all about TS credits, not where you truly enjoy. :confused3

We got a 6:50 ADR for 'Ohana for 9 people in December. I was really surprised we were able to get it. I wonder if larger parties are sometimes easier to get than smaller ones. I have read great things about Tusker House though.

I just called in (90 day mark - and the online system isn't working, of course) and asked for Ohana on Saturday, December 19th. I asked for 7:00 PM, but the first they could get us in was 7:05 PM! The horror! :lmao:

It's probably a good thing I didn't check here first - it would've just been one more thing to stress about. It's probably a good thing I had it planned for the last night of my trip. :woohoo:

We are going in Dec and got breakfast and dinner and the CM asked me what time I would like (I said what time available and he said its easier if you tell me what time and I gave him a time and he said no problem). I had a problem with CM and CP with the time not the date but CRT, Ohana, LeCellier and California Grill no problem with the date and time. Last trip, when I didn't get the ADR I wanted I called that morning and hope for the best and 90% of the time I was able to go to the restaurant b/c someone cancelled. Last trip we did not have CM and went there when they open for dinner and they sat us w/i 5 mins (it happend in BOMA and 1900 Park Fare)

I have tried to dine at Ohana my last 3 trips with NO luck!!!!
I am going Sep 22-29...anyone have a clue whether they have a lot of no shows these days? Last Dec they told me if I waited 2++ hours as a walk in one nite I could get in but jeez I hate wasting that kind of time:confused3

Also--what is Tusker house like? Never been...

THANKS!:)

How many are in your party and what time are u looking for?

I have also been unsuccessful in snagging an 'Ohana ressie. I was not able to get one for our February 09 trip and wasn't able to get anything for this trip - Sept 29 to Oct 4. I did online ressies at 6:00am on my 90 day mark and there was nothing available. In Feb when I tried for a walk up at 5:30, they told me to come back at 7:30 and they would see if any "walk up" would be available and then it most likely wouldn't be until 9 to 9:30 till a table would actually be available.

We've eaten at the Ohana 2X on different trips for character breakfast. Have you tried booking the outdoor Luau? We had our Thanksgiving meal there and it was really nice food and enjoyed the show. I assume they do it in Dec. Just a thought. Good luck- maybe you can catch a cancellation.

I agree that Ohana is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain a reservation. It's become a tradition to have dinner at Ohana early in our trip, however, when we called at our 90+10 date earlier this week, they told us it was already booked up for the date we wanted. I called two hours later to try to get Ohana on another day of our trip and switch that night's ressie for another night. BUT...they gave me a ressie for us at Ohana for the day I originally wanted it. Granted, it is later than I want to eat (like 8:45pm), but at least I got all the places I want to dine. I would suggest you keep trying. Apparently there are cancellations all the time.
