Just a quick review here:

O'Hana was a last-minute decision for us (four adults, two little girls), one we sort of "settled" on.

This place is dynamite for breakfast! The character interaction, the food itself, the value (we pay OOP), the service, the atmosphere and view ... superb!

Breakfast at O'Hana will always be a tradition for us now on our MK day. One of the best meals of our trip ... other meals included Jiko, 1900 Park Fare, several high-end places at Universal/Islands/Hard Rock Hotel, as well as Fishbones off Sandlake Road. The top three, IMO, were O'Hana, Jiko and Mythos. The worst were Park Fare and Fishbones (not Bonefish).

Way to go O'Hana!!!

We ate there last year and loved it as well. My DS loves Stitch. The interaction was awesome. We are headed back there in August.

We also loved it. My DS, 8 last year actually hugged Stitch and said "I love you Stitch." I don't remember how the food tasted - I was enjoying the character interaction too much!

Food was incredible -- with a nice balance of "adventure" and "mainstream."

Juice was a pinkish kiwi/grapefruit/guava blend. Superb -- even the kids loved it.

Breakfast was served in a skillet with nicely done scrambled eggs, bacon cooked to perfection (not rubbery/raw but not burned, either), really good sweet-and-slightly-spicy sausage links (large -- almost like Italian sausage size), and a nice potato hash.

Oh...almost forgot. Instead of biscuits, they served a warm pineapple bread :)

DH & I would not hesitate to return based on the food, value and service alone. The wonderful character interaction is just an added bonus!!!

Thanks for the Ohana review!:thumbsup2 We love that juice too.

But are you going to give us more on the other places, too! Please, please!

I'd love to hear your op's on Jiko. We dined there in January & really loved it!

Here's a quick review on the other places:

Jiko -- Three adults
Out of this world, as always. We all shared the olive flatbread, as well as a new flatbread for us ... it had a cilantro/yogurt dressing and a sweet/spicy African pepper that I can't remember the name of ... oh, and artichokes, too. Very, very good. As usual, we all ordered the filet and mac, which was perfect. Dessert was a shared pistachio creme brulee (we all shared since we were so stuffed from sharing two flatbreads).

1900 Park Fare -- Four adults, two little girls
All I can say is "eh." I suppose for a buffet, it was okay, but it was very crowded, loud, the character interaction for us was very rushed. The hotel itself is so beautiful when you walk in, and then to walk into the restaurant was just -- well, surprising. It reminded me of a Shoney's on a good day. I'm glad the kids got to see Cindy & Prince, but this is not a restaurant I'd return to for food or atmosphere. I would, however, like to try some of the other restaurants at the GF, tho.

Offsite to follow

Mythos at Islands of Adventure -- Three adults
Positively stellar. We ate lunch there twice, and the food is so unlike anything you'd ever expect to get in a theme park. DH got a spinach salad, topped with blueberries, tomatoes, salmon and bleu cheese crumbles, tossed in a warm bacon vinagrette, which warmed the spinach up just a touch. Mom and I both got the risotto of the day, which was seared sea scallops atop a spinach risotto, resting in a creamy mushroom soup. Various veggies to accompany. That was our first day.

Second day, DH got a buffalo bbq wrap, stuffed with chicken, mashed potatoes, greens and cheese. Served with fries and a drizzle of ranch dressing. Mom got that salad DH had had the day before. I got the pork tenderloin, which had a gooey crust which consisted of blueberries, bleu cheese and chopped pistachios. Served with it came warm spinach with fresh chopped garlic, smokey mac & cheese casserole and assorted veggies (tomatoes and mushrooms, I think.) The pork had the goo on top, and the pork itself was set in the dish which had a healthy serving of a port wine sauce. Truly, the best pork I've ever had in my life. I'd love to try that nut/blue cheese/blueberry topping on a grilled steak at home.

Pictures of everything we ate at Mythos can be found here, towards the bottom of the page. My post that I just did this morning of these menu items is No. 30.

Totally non-theme-park related was Fishbones. Awful. The menu only has one fish dinner, which cost around $20 or $25 -- pretty reasonable, right? Well, all the other fish dinners were on the "specials" board and ran between $33 and $49. Outrageous!!! We're talking about grouper and mahi here. Anyway, definitely not a restaurant I'd return to. I ended up with scallops that were full of sand. DH had the filet. The kids had pizza. My friend had the lobster, which was huge, but mostly consisting of a nasty cartilage.

Off-site restaurants on I-Drive, Sandlake & 535 have always been very hit or miss for us, but this one was a miss.

This is not to be confused with Bonefish Grill, which we love!!

Hope no one minds me including a few off-site things. We love it all in Orlando :)

I am glad you enjoyed Jiko. I have not been to the breakfast buffet yet.
But Jiko is a favorite.:goodvibes

Thanks!

I'm with you on the filet, mac & cheese at Jiko! Don't think I could pass it up to try a different entree.

We tried Park Fare once. And once was enough for us too.

You may have also given me a reason to venture to Universal! The food at Mythos looks great! Did you post any of Tchop Chop?

Glad to hear you loved Ohana, i am debating on doing that for our november trip, and you just helped me out! LOL

Jiko is our fav, too. We tried it for an anniversary dinner back in 2001 when we couldn't get into LeCellier. It was another "settle." After Jiko, DH & I have no desire to return to LeCellier. We save our steak meals for AKL

Thanks!

Here too! We've been probably 20 times, and we've never ordered any other entree but the filet. Sure, everything looks great, smells good, sounds interesting, but, nah ... if it ain't broke, you know? Plus, that red wine sauce!!! There's no way I could make that at home. I talked to a waiter once about how to make it, and you'd need pounds of veal and lamb bones to cook down for a day or two, and a lot of beets to do the same thing. I love to cook, but making a sauce (other than spaghetti) for days on end is not in my agenda, lol.

I did post several up on that thread for our anniversary dinner last September at Tchoup Chop. We did the chef's menu and regretted not doing the pairings. We opted for the signature Mai Tai's instead, which were about 15 ounces of pure rum. Don't get me wrong; we love "tasty beverages" on vac-cay, but those Mai Tai's were pretty hard to get down, especially with the delicate chef's menu offerings. I'm glad we did Tchoup Chop and would frequent there if we lived in Orlando, but with limited days on vacation and so many must-do's, it just didn't make it too high on the priority list. It's a beautiful restaurant and resort, tho, and very affordable considering what you get -- I think we paid about $65 or $70 for the five-course chef's menu, plus several compliments from the chef.

O'Hana is definitely worth trying, especially on your MK day. Very, very relaxing, stress-free meal -- and delicious! The movie's really cute, too, if you haven't seen it. As a childless adult, I don't think I've enjoyed a Disney movie as much as Lilo & Stitch since Nemo and Lion King before that. We had to sort of "cram" and watch the movie the night before we left for Orlando so we'd know a little about the characters. Stitch now has a spot on our very-limited-space backpack for his pin, a spot on our Disney-dedicated Christmas tree for an ornament, and he has his own chair in our den for watching TV with us (the only stuffed animal we've ever bought at WDW). He's really cute :)

Between the meal & the movie, we love Stitch

Hope you have as good of a time as we did!

WOW, 20 times!!!:goodvibes

I actually went hunting for that recipe for the Jiko red wine sauce! Even though I love to cook, that one is way too much for me! I don't know if you've seen this WDW recipe site, thought you might be interested.

Don't worry, most of the recipes are not nearly as complicated as the red wine sauce!

I'll go check out those pics. $70 dollars for a 5 course meal at any Emeril's rest. is a very good deal! As pricey as all of his rests. here in New Orleans are, we may have to give that one a try on one of our Florida visits!

I have not found a Mai Tai in ages that has been "right"! I have pretty much given up ordering them. They are either almost straight rum or they taste like fruit punch. :confused3 Which really is okay, since I really like wine. And when you get a really good food & wine pairing, well that's heaven in my opinion.:cloud9:

Is O'Hana breakfast all you can eat? Can you ask for refills on the skillets, fruit or juice, or do you just get one serving per person?

All you can eat. They bring you out a skillet full of stuff, and if you need more of anything, they'll bring it. They stressed "not to be shy about that."

Drinks were refilled continously, coffee, juice & water -- even without asking.

And it's not one skillet per person. There were six of us, and the skillet was huge and packed, definitely enough for six (but asking for more is encouraged). The table next to us was a party of two, and their skillet was obviously smaller.

I believe they call this "family style."

My DS loves Stitch so we may have to include a breakfast at 'Ohana next year.

I agree that Mythos is a cut above other theme park restaurants too :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reviews :)

Thanks for the great ideas! We're going back for the first time since our Disney Wedding in '98. Bringing our DS(7) for the first time. He LOVES Stitch, so I'm glad Ohana is the place. :cool1:

We are doing this breakfast in July! Thanks for the great review. :)

I am really looking forward to trying the ohana breakfast in september, it sounds really good.

I have not been to the breakfast buffet yet.

Just want to stress that the O'Hana breakfast is not a buffet. Dh & I are not buffet people at all -- probably a big reason why we didn't care for Park Fare, but we did it so our friends' little girls could see Cinderella. We're germaphobes, and we find eating at a buffet akin to running our tongues along the handrails outside of Peter Pan for 30 minutes

Hope everyone else planning to try it out enjoys it!

I'm already getting a little nervous. Our timeshare week is right in the middle of the free DDP. We haven't decided yet if we're going to use our Orlando TS or trade it. If we keep our home TS week, I'm afraid O'Hana will be sold out! I suppose we could book now and cancel later.
