Oh YUCK! GROSS!

It's always disgusting to find something unappetizing in our pets food. Unfortunately, they LOVE  it. I used to work as the supervisor for Friskies and I could gross everyone out with the stories I used to get, especially when I was on call at 3am.

We have 3 cats and 1 large dog, so we keep their food in plastic storage bins. This helps keep anything from getting in and from them putting anything in them, however our cats are indoors, so the scariest thing they bring me is a used Q-Tip that was viscously lying in the garbage :rotfl2:

While we were in town one day last summer, a bird flew down the chimney and got in the house. My cat caught it and placed it in his food dish. We came home to a trail of blood and thought it was the cat, but after following the trail, discovered the bird. Not bad for a 23 pound declawed cat. He never tried to eat the bird, but since he "feeds" his stuffed animal, I wonder if he was also feeding the bird?

yep, we keep our food in plastic containers too (not the fancy petstore ones tho, I just went to Walmart and bought a couple big bins for $3.50 each). Bought mine the day after I went to get the food and found a whole army having a banquet. They had nibbled through the bottom of the dog and cat food bags during the night and food was all over the garage floor with mice, squirrels and ants all partying.

OMG :confused3 That is more unbelievable than I can believe@! Did that make sense?

Did you use strong bleach to clean yourself up with? You could have very serious germs on you....

We used to have a single size strainer we used when scooping the dog food from the big bag!!!

Your cat is very smart by the way... to put it's great catch in it's own food bag... very smart indeed...

My heart goes out to you LOL :teeth:

Quite a few years ago, I got up one Sunday morning to get ready for church. I stumbled into the kitchen, half asleep and noticed the cats needed some food. I reach down and get the cat food box and proceed to shake some food in the bowl. Well, the next thing I know, there is a mouse (alive) falling out of the box. I started screaming like a girl and jumping up and down in the middle of the kitchen floor. Needless to say, I was awake now! I am not normally afraid of mice, but I didn't expect it to fall out of the cat food box! Luckily, DH came running and caught it and took it outside to the woods!!

Now we use the large bags of cat food, but we use a cup now and I am very careful when I scoop it out!

EWWWWW! that is GROSS!
I keep the dog food in the garage too...
I used to keep it in the bag but now keep it in one of those big tubs with a tight lid on it...I keep the scooper in there too (not the pooper scooper :rotfl2: )
So, that is my suggestion to you - tub and scooper...Now go wash your hands again! ;)

Cats do like to leave little surprises for you, don't they?

My DH used to have a cat, Alfie. Alfie was quite the hunter--they lived on a lake, and Alfie used to go down to the water's edge and wave his white paws in the water. It would attract fish, which Alfie would then flip out of the water and devour, of course leaving the lovely fish head as a special present for the family, just outside the door.

One morning, however, Alfie outdid himself. DH opened the door, checking of course for any treats left by the cat, and found that Alfie had eaten something a little different for dinner that night. There, lined up neatly on the mat, were two duck feet, and one duck bill. No further trace of the unfortunate bird was ever found.

You poor thing, how gross!

OK so I had to "disinfect" my hands just to reply to this! :scared1:

I too have CLEAR plastic storage bins for my dog food. May be time to invest ;)

Yuck, I am now thinking twice about scooping dog food out.

:crazy2: :faint: I'm heading to Wal-mart ASAP for a clear storage bin. GROSS!!! Has your skin stopped crawling yet???

After college I lived in an apt that attracted mice. They would chew a hole in the dog food bag and then help themselves.

Now, fess up - who here has just washed their hands after reading this??? :wave2:

Just wanted to thank everyone that suggested those containers. I went and bought some today, making sure the seal was perfect on those babies! LOL.

Lesson learned: Never stick your hand into some dark spot where you can't see exactly what is in there!

Me, Me! That is just plain ewwwwy! :crazy2:

Your post brings back memories of an apartment we lived in with no garage so I stored bird seed in the basement. I also found an unwanted critter in the seed one day...it was so disgusting! After that event I bought plastic totes for all that stuff, even now we have a garage it is all still in a tote!

Good question, I don't know. If it were me I'd burn the bag! (Heck, I'd want to burn the entire garage, not to mention my "mouse" hand) LOL. But knowing my husband, he won't want to waste any food.

Please, please, PLEASE tell me you guys threw the dog food out! You are grossed out by just touching the poor little corpse, now imagine having to eat something that a mouse died and in. :scared:

Eeewww!!! Years ago at our old house we kept my big bag of food in the basement. I brought it up to pour some food into the bowl and a mouse ran out!!!!!! Talk about freaking out! Here's what a good mommy I am, I was right by the french doors leading out to the deck so I scream, open the door and run on the deck. Only problem is I left my two year old DD in the family room, LOL.

A gift of love left for you out of respect, or perhaps to snack on later. Either way your header is appropos. ICK! GROSS!

You really should get metal containers. I have a sturdy plastic container. The little suckers ate right through the lid. I do have a cat, but he seems to think mice are just to play with. The dog is a better mouser than he is.
