Oh the Pressure to do a PTR -- We're Home & Surprise Video up on Facebook

Kathy, I'm so sorry. I hope Mark and Dona can work things out with his mom. If PoA is a no go, I sure hope she will include them in all the medical records. My mom and dad had to fill out paperwork so that I can call the doc, hospital, etc. and be able to get info on my dad. Will especially pray for Mark and his heart.

((hugs)) and prayers today! I hope treatment goes well and that Mark and Dona can get through to her. Take care of Mark and yourself - we need you two to stay healthy!

Kathy you don't owe us anything  Your focus is with your family right now and I'm sure everyone here totally understands that.

It sounds like your MIL has already given up :sad2: I hope and pray that Mark and his sister are able to reason with her tonight.

 I'm so sorry for all that you and Mark are going through. I hope that your MIL starts to accept help soon. I will be keeping your family in my prayers.

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about the struggles of Mark's mom. My parents are going through something similar with my grandmother, and I can just imagine how taxing it is when they won't take what we think are obvious steps to improve their quality of life. I hope the treatments go well and that your family will be able to care for her. :goodvibes

She did not have her chemo yesterday. When she got to the hospital she was so weak that they immediately admitted her and told her they had to "rebuild" her...feed her, give her insulin, strenghten her up (she couldn't even walk).

Mark went to his see his Dad last night and still was unable to get any "confirmed" information. He called his Mom this morning to see if we could go see her tonight and she said no. She again gave us conflicting reports.

Mark got angry and called the nurses station and got the head nurse. He explained who he was, that his mother and father were not forthcoming, etc. The nurse told him to hold on and marched to my MIL's room and told her that Mark was on phone and could she tell him what was going on. My mother consented.

Unfortunately, it is not good. She has Stage 4 Lung Cancer. They will NOT operate at all because it will not do any good (we suspect it may have already started spreading). They will do chemo and radiation to give her a "better quality of life" for whatever time she has remaining. They cannot guess how long that might be at this point.

Please continue saying prayers for my sweet hubby and his mom.

Kathy,

I'm so sorry Mark, you and his family have to go through this. I work in Radiation/Oncology and yes with stage 4 lung cancer they pretty much give chemo and radiation for palliative purposes only.

I wouldn't push your MIL to much, she has to be going through so many emotions right now. I'm thinking she doen't want her family to see her like this. Support her no matter what her decision is. Knowing that you care and love her is what she needs right now.

Prayers being said for all of you during this difficult time.

Oh Kathy! Definitely still praying for you MiL and your family! So sorry to hear of the news, but hopefully she'll get strong and the chemo will help! :grouphug:

So sorry to hear this Kathy....hope the hospital stay will give her some strength and her insulin levels back to normal.
is someone other than your FIL going to the appts with them? at least you could get correct info.

I don't mean to scare you, but want to share this with you...
my MIL was diagnosed in 2005 with stage 4 lung cancer and had spread already to her bones and liver- she hadn't gone to the doctor for over 20 years and had been a 2 pack a day smoker for over 40 years, she refused to try and quit smoking for years, the day after she was diagnosed she went on the "patch" which was too little to late...they never did treatment, just kept her comfortable... she passed 3 1/2 months later with my FIL, BIL and Jim at her side, Jim flew up and was there about 2 hours before she passed.

hope whatever decisions they make she can be pain free and you all can spend time with her....continued prayers and lots of :hugs:

so sorry Kathy! But I am glad Mark finally got some answers so you know what you are dealing with. Take care of yourselves!

So sorry to hear the bad news, Kathy.
I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Forgive me Kathy, I have been so wrapped up in my own soap opera, I didn't realize your MIL was so ill.

Praying for you all and peace for Mark!

Was hoping for better news for your MIL. Will continue to keep your Mil and your family in my prayers.

Oh I'm so sorry Kathy, I was hoping for good news (obviously) Keeping you and your family in my thoughts!

Kathy, I'm afraid all I can offer you and your family is more good thoughts and prayers. So, so sorry for the prognosis I do hope that what time your mother-in-law has left (none of us know the future) is filled with laughter, good times and love. Elaine

Kathy you are in my thoughts and prayers !! 16 years ago my MIL died of brain cancer that had spread from lung cancer a few years before !!It is heartbreaking to watch and exhausting , I spent every lunch time with her and also many nights !! I don't regret 1 single minute of that time , she was able to pass at home surrounded by her loved ones !!

Kathy you, Mark and both his parents are in my prayers. That is never an easy place to be in, I went through a lot of this with my own mom and its very stressful to feel like your help isn't wanted. Hopefully she will relent and adjust to the help you and Mark and ready and willing to give (which is what my mom did). In any case, hang in there my friend!
