Oh the birds, the birds

Yes, the bird (especially seagull) problem is well known to us locals (or near)

I've seen more than a few food trays upturned due to pesky seagulls....makes me wonder if they could use some speakers with really high or low frequencies pointed to the air to scare the birds away or something....hmm...

It will not be real funny with all the birds and such when the bird flu gets here.

Do ducks count? At Christmas time in 2004, we were lined up in Frontierland and watching the afternoon Christmas parade. For some reason, there was a LONG break in the middle of the parade. While the crowd waited for the next float to come down the path, a pair of mallards just dropped from the sky and landed in the middle of the empty path. Let's just say they were making babies! The whole crowd went nuts laughing! DD was 6 and wanted to know what the ducks were doing, so we said that they were dancing! :rotfl: DH said that it was a little unscheduled entertainment!

Now we can't walk by that area without giggling! ;)

am i the only person who doesn't have a "bird issue"? i quite like seeing them in disneyworld.Makes me think they are on holiday too :rotfl:

We were eating at Pecos Bills Cafe in Jan. We always end up eating there, and this was the worst I've seen the birds. Usually they are just swooping down to pick up fries that are dropped on the ground. This time, they pooped down the back of my shirt and on my new DVC backpack. My kids thought it was really funny and a little scary to be surrounded by these birds. As we were leaving I stood up while holding a cup of fries. A bird dive-bombed me and knocked the whole cup out of my hands! Also, in 2000 a bird flew into my head at POR.

Sorry--double post. I got the "server is too busy" message and thought it didn't go through. In January at Pecos Bill Cafe a bird pooped down my back and on my new DVC backpack. As we were leaving, I stood up holding a cup of fries. A bird dive-bombed me and knocked the cup out of my hands. Also, in 2000 a bird flew into the side of my head at POR.

I love them. we always joke they're the smartest birds in Florida. if they don't have a band around their leg, they're wild birds living in WDW, Seaworld, Busch Gardens and dining for free. Universal Studios/ Islands of Adventure has a couple hundred feral cats that live inside the parks and come out at night. :)

I don't think that the bird problem is anything new. My last trip was in 1995 and I witnessed this: Family orders food at the old Discovery Island CS place. Dad and kids bring tray of food to table while mom gets napkins and such. A big white long beaked bird swoops down steals whole hotdog, bun and all off their table. :rotfl: Everyone else in the table area guards their food after seeing this. The mom comes back "where is my hotdog?" :confused3 Dad says "a bird took it" "yea right. Where is it?" "honey I'm telling you a bird took it" mom looks a little annoyed with hubby thinking that he is joking until other patrons back him up. BTW the CS place gave her a new hotdog no charge saying that it happens all the time.

We were at Sea World in May DH bought some fish to feed the Stingrays DD was about to do it - than a bird swooped down and took the fish from her hand! She was done after that!!

The seagulls are really a problem at Epcot...This guy swooped into my photo of Japan...

DH and I were walking through that area on January 28 after the AP EE Preview. The birds were going crazy and it was like walking through a mine field. Someone in front of us got hit! I wonder if that was you? :rotfl2: Of course, I wouldn't be laughing if I had been the one to get hit.

All us DISers should just start walking on the sidewalk next to the buildings, at least then it will only be the other people getting hit!

I just read this interesting tidbit... If you listen carefully as you walk past Spaceship Earth you will hear a bird squawking. It is actaully a recording of a bird in distress to try to keep other birds away.

My fiance says that they tagged all the seagulls that show up seasonally in the winter months at WDW, once, and discovered they're all coming from New Jersey. I guess for Jersey Week? :rotfl:

We were eating outside at Pecos Bills in January and my DH went back inside to get a drink - he forgot to get his- and one of those white birds with the big beak stuck his beak over the table and stole the top of our hamburger bun. I couldn't believe it! I called DH on the cell phone and told him to get another bun. I think we'll be eating inside from now on.

I know this may be a little OT, but I have noticed the same thing but in reference to squirrels. They get awfully close to the guests. We were leaving MK one afternoon and were walking to where you get on the busses and a squirrel shot out from the fenced in area and ran right across my foot midstride, it scared the crap out of me. I do think the birds are a problem but honestly, I think they are quite funny to watch, although we have never been pooed on, last trip my son sat in poo on the benches alongside Tom Sawyer island. I don't know much about animals but I would like to know this, if the are so accustomed to eating fries and bits of food guests feed them or they manage to snatch do they still eat their regular diets and if not then aren't they then sort of dependent on guests feeding them??

There used to be a squirrel who lived at the Beach Club and stole chicken strips, don't know if he still does.
