Oh Sweet Mother of God @ The Wave

I've dined at the Wave several times.

As a matter of fact, John and I were the first "paying customers" on opening day.

I've had several dinners and two lunches.

As I said at the start of my review.....all of my previous experiences were good.

This one was not....and I feel things have changed.

I would be curious about what would happen if you went back when free dining wasn't going on. Kevin, I know some people feel the Dining Plan has hurt Disney restaurants. But would you say that free dining has been even worse for them?

I went to The Wave in April with a friend on my birthday trip to WDW. I ordered the steak and thought that it was very good. The desserts left something to be desired as well. We had all three selections of the mini desserts, since it was my birthday I received a free one in addition to the two we were entitled to on the dining plan, and while we each enjoyed one thing on each platter over all I would be very disappointed if I had to pay for this out of pocket. I know you pay for the dining plan, but you know what I mean. As for the experience in the restaurant I couldn't agree more. I think we may have actually been at the same table John and Kevin were at. The not so crowded restaurant sat us at the two top (not usually a problem) with a large pillar as an added guest. We had absolutely no room on the table for our drinks, bread and plates. We also ordered the sampler appetizer and were very disappointed in the items on the plate. We didn't even get shrimp, when we asked they said that the shrimp was part of the crab cake. :confused3 The place is indeed very beige and our server was just as beige. Very nice and accomodating, but nothing over the top. I had to laugh at John and Kevin's review/experience because it was very similar to ours.

Yes, very, very funny! I like how they just had to watch the children be tortured!

It's like watching people who've never tried Beverly before... :lmao:

Loved the review, except for trying not to cackle in the office. ;) I've been at the Wave a couple of times, but only just shortly after they opened. The food and service was in "brand new and trying to impress" mode then. Sad that they seem to have slipped so much!

I will say that the desserts never really excited me when looking at the menu - I just didn't expect them to be horrible, or only "not minded" by diners if the desserts are combined. :rotfl2:

I was good until they were talking about the black bean soup after seeing the picture..

Corey: I'm not gonna say what it looks like
John: It rhymes with soup!
:lmao:

Uh oh... I haven't listened yet, now I am scared. My husband and I had a WONDERFUL lunch here on our last trip. Of course that was back in 2008, so it's been a while. . . but we are still dreaming of those milkshakes- some of the best we've ever had.

We ate at the Wave a few months after it opened. I thought the food choice and quality was ok. It sounds like the same or worse. WDW food still getting worse and prices going up. Oh well.

OK, I finally got to listen to the whole review. And after that, even my wonderful experiences in the past aren't going to overcome my worries. Kevin wins, I switched our March 12 reservation from The Wave to California Grill! Thank you, Kevin.

I was halfway through a long (15 mile) run this morning, happily listening to the podcast and definitely interested in the Wave review. Like others, we've been to the Wave several times on past trips and have loved it each time. Regardless, when I got to the "Oh Sweet Mother of God" line, I literally bust out laughing and almost fell down at the same time. That wouldn't be a problem, but there were several people around me on the trail I was running on that all looked at me like I had lost my mind.

Excellent review, even though I'm sad to hear about the decline in what was definitely one of our favorite restaurants. Thanks!
