DS is leaving for WDW in 27 hours and is now coughing and in the bathroom... holy Mickey! What to do!?!?!?!?!?!?

Get him to the Doctor today! Hope he's ok.

yes i agree with PP. Get him to the doctor even if it doesn't seem like much. And start him on an antibiotic. You would be suprised what a turn around he could make in just a few hours. I hope all is good. I will send good vibes for a speedy recovery! N'joy your vacation!

Doctors...lots of fluid...and REST!!! Sometimes just resting or sleeping "it off" can really make a difference. Make sure he does nothing but rest until it's time to leave!

That's about all you can do, get him to a doctor, get him checked out right away. Make sure the doc knows you're on your way to Disney.

Ask about trying benedryl. DD has been having Allergy cough & not really stuffy. Worked like a charm.

I just got him an appointment. I tried his regular doctor and they said no, DH's dr. and they said no, finally got him in at our old pediatrician... How annoying!

My dad is taking him in an hour and since dad's going on the trip, he'll make sure to let them know.

Thanks for all the warm thoughts!

Best of luck to you, I hope all goes well!! We just got back yesterday and today was my DD's first day back to school and the nurse just called me a hour ago. I had to go and get her and she has been vomiting ever since she has been home. I think she inhaled some of that pixie dust as we were leaving :scared1:

Oh no! Best of luck on your end. Luckily it's the weekend for you. Many thoughts.

Last year, we were getting ready to head to Europe the day after the last day of school.. we would travel on Wednesday... On Saturday morning our daughter (8) complained of a sore throat... a flashlight showed scarlet red back there. Off to urgent care... since time was of the essence to stop this from making her unable to travel.

Told them please look carefully for strep as we would be travelling in 5 days.
They did the quick culture and result was negative. Doctor decided it was a reaction to chlorine in the public pool water she had been in the day before.

Sunday morning, "my throat hurts WORSE" she ways. Back to urgent care. (she never gets sick, sees her regular doctor once a year for well visits only!)
We sheepishly say, yes it's us again, please test her again, we can't miss this if it's an illness, need her on meds right away if so... etc etc.

Another quick culture, nurse leave the room, and very quickly the doctor is entering the room saying it's "Flaming Strep"... !

So Luckily by Wednesday she was feeling okay, and we had the fun of carrying liquid antibiotics that need to be kept cold through the airports and to our first hotel in Switzerland, where we luckily had a fridge.

But on Monday, we thought... strep can be contagious and what if one of us catches it while we are in Europe? Contacted our doctor who agreed to prescribe two pill based antibiotics to take only if we developed the symptoms. Phew!

At WDW, the concierge will be able to provide the phone/addresses of urgent care facilities, and we've even seen a fly car that might do pickup for one of them. At least one is a 24 hour facility. Also, there is at least one pharmacy that will drop off prescriptions to WDW hotels. Sometimes the best way to handle this is to find out which pharmacy delivers, get the phone #, and then call your own doctor. If they are willing to prescribe without seeing, you save an out of network urgent care visit and the possible hassle of paying full price to submit a claim for reimbursement later.

We left 9/10/09. Three days before, my husband came down with the WORST cold of his life! I was so scared we would have to cancel. We decided to go anyways. On the night before we were to fly out, he spent the night in the ED for a breakout of poison ivy! It wa spreading everywhere!

So we went ANYWAYS, and what do you know, a day after I got there, I was sick with the same cold and felt like crap. I suffered through it. Colds are so much easier to deal with at Disney! LOL I just had to skip some of the rides because I was so disoriented from the cold LOL.

I'll have to look in on this just to make sure they have all the information. I've already written out a permission slip for my parents to make decisions on medical treatment while at Disney. I just feel so bad for my little man right now - I wish it were me who was sick since I'm not going on the trip. :guilty: I think I know who was nice enough to share their germs though...

When my kids were young, I would send them to the bathroom right before the ""Sign of Peace" at the catholic church starting 2 weeks before we were supposed to fly to WDW. There were always people coughing around us, so much that I hated even going to church, knowing someone would be sick.

Okay...I was just reading this thread and hope you get a chance to check in before going...

SO how is your DS??? What did the doctor say???

Hope your DS is ok. I just had something pop up like that 3 days ago( I leave for the World Sunday morning :woohoo:) Actually it was 2 things. I first started getting a scratchy throat, I never get sick have a good immune system, I went and got cough and cold medicine and I feel fine now. The other is I had a massively painful toothache. I went this morning to the dentist and he did a new filling but said it really needs root canal:eek:. It feels mostly better now just a bit painful. He did give me some pain meds incase it worsens or the flight makes it worse. Hopefully it stays ok for now. And again hope your Ds is ok:goodvibes

I hope things are fine with your son and that he starts feeling better soon.

Big time head cold was the diagnosis. Thank Goodness! His ears and chest were clear so the doctor cleared him to fly. Yay!
